Cancelling Your Subscription and/or Deleting Your Studio

Steps to downgrade your paid plan, delete a studio from your account, and/or delete your Iris account entirely.

Updated over a week ago

Each Studio in Iris has its own subscription plan (Free, Standard, Pro, or Enterprise). If you need to stop paying, you can downgrade to the Free plan — which effectively cancels your paid subscription while keeping your Studio intact. If you need to remove a Studio entirely, you can delete it. And if you want to leave Iris altogether, you can delete your account.

These are three separate actions with different consequences. This article covers all of them.

What You'll Need

  • Owner or Admin role to change billing plans or delete a Studio. Producers and Viewers don't have access to billing settings or Studio deletion.

  • Internet connection — plan changes and deletion require communication with Iris cloud services.

  • More than one Studio (for Studio deletion only) — you can't delete your only Studio.

Cancelling a Paid Subscription (Downgrading to Free)

Downgrading to the Free plan cancels your paid subscription while keeping your Studio, configuration, and history intact. You'll retain access to Free plan features.

Steps

  1. Log in to Iris at studio.tryiris.ai or open the Iris Studio App.

  2. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Billing (or go to Settings > Studio > Billing tab). This tab is only visible to Admins and Owners.

  4. You'll see your current plan, upcoming invoice, payment method, cloud usage, and invoice history.

  5. Click Change Plan (or Upgrade Plan on Free).

  6. In the "Choose Your Studio Plan" dialog, select the Free plan and click "Downgrade Plan." You can also use the Monthly / Yearly toggle at the top to switch billing frequencies if you're switching between paid plans rather than cancelling.

  7. A secure billing portal (Stripe) opens in your browser. Follow the prompts to confirm.

  8. Once confirmed, you're redirected back to Iris.

What to Expect After Downgrading

  • Downgrades don't take effect immediately. Your current plan stays active until the end of the billing period.

  • A banner appears on the Billing page: "Your plan will be changed on [date]. Your next estimated payment will be $[amount]."

  • You retain full access to your current plan's features until the change date.

  • Once the Free plan takes effect, features and limits specific to paid plans (extra sources, collaborators, cloud usage beyond the Free allowance) become restricted.

  • Your Studio configuration is preserved — you don't lose your setup, you just have Free plan limits.

The billing page refreshes automatically every 30 seconds, so your plan status stays current.

Re-Upgrading After Downgrading

You can upgrade back to any paid plan at any time from the Billing page. Upgrades take effect immediately.

Managing Your Payment Method

On the Billing page, the Payment Method card shows your current card on file.

  • Click Edit or Add to open the Stripe billing portal, where you can update your card, view invoices, or manage your subscription.

  • To remove your payment method, downgrade to the Free plan first.

Deleting a Studio

Deleting a Studio permanently removes it — all associated data, connected devices, and configurations are gone. This is separate from deleting your account.

Requirements

  • You must be the Owner (or have "destroy" permission)

  • You must have more than one Studio — the delete option doesn't appear if it's your only one

Steps

  1. Go to Settings > Studio > Settings sub-tab.

  2. Scroll down to find "Delete Studio."

  3. Click it. A confirmation dialog appears: Delete "[Studio Name]" Studio

  4. Type the exact confirmation phrase (e.g., "Delete Main Stage"). The text field shows a red border until it matches.

  5. Click the red "Delete Studio" button (disabled until the text matches exactly).

  6. The app restarts and redirects you to your remaining Studio.

What Happens When You Delete a Studio

  • All cameras and devices linked to that Studio are unlinked

  • The associated subscription and usage tracking are cancelled automatically

  • All collaborator memberships are removed

  • This cannot be undone

Leaving a Studio (For Non-Owners)

If you were invited to a Studio and want to remove yourself:

  1. Go to Settings > Studio > Settings sub-tab.

  2. Click "Leave Studio."

  3. Your membership is removed and the app redirects you.

This removes you from the Studio but doesn't delete it — other members keep their access.

Owners cannot leave their own Studio. If you're the Owner, you can only delete it (or contact support about ownership transfer, which isn't currently available in the product).

Deleting Your Iris Account

If you want to leave Iris entirely:

  1. Click your profile icon → Account Settings.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the Profile section.

  3. Click Delete Account.

  4. Confirm in the dialog: "Are you sure you want to delete your account?"

  5. Click Delete Account to confirm.

Account deletion is permanent and immediate. You're signed out right away and all data is removed. This cannot be undone.

What Happens If…

…you downgrade from paid to Free? Change is scheduled for end of billing period. You keep paid features until then. Banner shows the date.

…you delete a Studio with a paid subscription? Subscription and usage tracking are cancelled automatically. All agents are unlinked.

…you don't have permission to change the plan? The Billing tab isn't visible to Producers or Viewers. You won't see it at all.

…you try to delete your only Studio? The "Delete Studio" link doesn't appear. Create a second Studio first.

…you want to switch billing frequency (monthly ↔ yearly)? Use the Monthly/Yearly toggle in the plan selection dialog and select your current plan at the new frequency. Confirm in the billing portal.

…you want an Enterprise plan? Select Enterprise → "Contact Sales." The Iris team will reach out with custom pricing.
