Ithy offers a range of customization options that allow you to tailor the platform to your specific needs and preferences. These settings help you control how articles are generated, displayed, and organized, creating a personalized experience that aligns with your workflow.
By adjusting these preferences in your Account page, you can influence the style of the content, the types of visual elements included, and even your preferred third-party chat integration for discussing your articles. These settings are saved to your user profile and applied to your future article generations unless you change them.
Accessing Your Custom Settings
Sign In: Ensure you are signed into your Ithy account.
Navigate to Account Page: Go to your Account page (usually accessible via a link like
https://ithy.com/account
or through a user menu).Locate Settings Sections: On your Account page, you will find various sections for configuring your preferences. Key areas for customization include "Custom Prompt" (also known as Custom Instructions) and "Visual Element Settings."
Custom Prompt (Custom Instructions)
This is one of the most impactful customization features, allowing you to provide standing instructions for how Ithy should write articles for you.
Functionality: You can enter text (up to 10,000 characters) into the "Custom Prompt" field. This text is automatically appended to every question or prompt you submit.
Purpose: To guide the AI's tone, style, focus, or specific content inclusions/exclusions for all your articles.
Example Uses:
Tone & Style: "Write academically and formally." or "Use a friendly, conversational tone with emojis."
Audience: "Explain concepts as if for a high school student."
Content Focus: "Focus on practical applications and include real-world examples." or "Always include a section on the historical background of the topic."
Structural Requests: "Ensure each article has an introduction, at least three main body points, and a conclusion."
How it Works: Your custom prompt is added (often with a " - " separator) to your specific query before the AI processes it. For a more detailed explanation, please see the Guide to Custom Instructions help article.
Chat Provider Selection
Ithy allows you to "Start Chat" about a generated article. This feature often integrates with external chat providers. You can select your preferred provider from a list.
Functionality: In your Account settings, you'll find a dropdown menu or selection options for various chat providers. The available options include:
ChatGPT
Perplexity
iAsk
Felo
Mistral (Logged-in Mistral account required)
Kagi (Kagi subscription required)
And potentially others as they are integrated.
Default: If you don't make a selection, there will be a default provider (e.g., ChatGPT).
How it's Used: When you click the "Start Chat" button associated with one of your generated articles, Ithy will redirect you to the chat interface of your chosen provider, often pre-loading the context of your article to facilitate the conversation. This allows you to ask follow-up questions, request clarifications, or discuss the article's content with an AI specialized in conversational interactions.
Visual Element Settings (Toggles)
You have granular control over which types of visual or specially structured content elements are included in your generated articles.
These are presented as on/off toggles on your Account page. Enabling these can make your articles more engaging and informative, but you can disable them if you prefer a more text-focused output or to potentially speed up generation slightly.
The common visual element toggles include:
Pictures / Image Generation (
image
):Controls the general inclusion of images within the main body of the article. If enabled, the AI will attempt to find and embed relevant images (e.g., from Google Images).
YouTube Videos (
youtube
):Controls whether the article should include embedded relevant YouTube videos.
Radar Charts (
radar
):Controls the inclusion of radar charts (also known as spider charts). These are useful for visually comparing multiple items across several different characteristics or performance metrics.
Mind Maps (
mindmap
):Controls the generation and inclusion of mind maps. Mind maps can be excellent for visualizing the structure of a topic, brainstorming ideas, or showing relationships between different concepts.
FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) (
faq
):Controls whether the AI should generate an FAQ section at the end of the article. This section typically includes common questions related to the article's topic, along with their answers.
Available Visual Toggles
Setting | Description | Default |
Images | Include relevant royalty-free images from Google Images | On |
YouTube | Embedded videos. | On |
Radar Charts | Show radar diagrams for multi-criteria comparisons. | On |
Mind Maps | Add mindmap diagrams. | On |
FAQ | Auto-generate frequently-asked questions. | On |
How They're Used: Your preferences for these toggles are saved to your user profile. When you generate a new article, these settings are considered by the AI content aggregator. If a toggle is enabled, the AI will attempt to generate and include that element if it deems it relevant and appropriate for the topic of your query.
Default State: Often, these visual settings are enabled ('True') by default to provide the richest possible article experience. You can customize them to your liking.
Benefits of Using Custom Settings
Personalization: Make Ithy work exactly the way you want it to.
Efficiency: Save time by setting preferences once instead of specifying them with every query.
Relevance: Get articles that are more closely aligned with your specific needs and how you intend to use them.
Control: Fine-tune the balance between textual and visual content.
Regularly reviewing and adjusting your Custom Settings on your Ithy Account page can significantly enhance your productivity and satisfaction with the platform. Experiment with different settings to discover what works best for your research style and content requirements.
