Mobile App vs Web App - What Can I Do Where?

Understand what features are available on the JACK mobile app versus the web app, and how each fits into your daily workflow.

Written by Adriana

Overview

JACK App is available on both desktop (web app) and mobile (iOS and Android). The web app is your primary tool for setting up, managing and administering your business - estimating, financials, reporting, and settings all live here. The mobile app is built for the field — it puts job information, timesheets, safety, daily logs, and schedule management in your team's hands on site.

This article helps you understand which platform to use for each part of your workflow, so your team always knows where to go to get things done.

Downloading the Mobile App

Search for JACK App in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to download the mobile app or scan the QR code above. Log in using the same credentials as your web app account. If prompted, select the relevant portal to access your account.

Web App - Office and Administration

The web app is where your business is built and managed. Use it for all setup, estimating, financial management, and reporting. The following features are available on the web app only.

Account Setup and Settings
All account configuration lives in the web app — Company Details, Branding, Data Setup, user permissions, accounting integration, and Catalog management are all managed from Settings on the web.

CRM and Sales
Creating and managing leads, setting up your Sales Pipeline, and sending proposals and documents to clients are all handled in the web app via the Sales tab.

Estimating and Takeoffs
Building estimates, running takeoffs from plans, managing Bid Packages (Requests for Quote), creating Cost Options, and generating proposals all require the web app. Navigate to Estimates to access these features.

Job Financials
The full financial suite — budgets, bills, Purchase Orders, Progress Billings (Client Invoices), Change Orders, Gains/Losses, and Cashflow — is managed from the web app under Job Financials and Finance.

Accounting Integration
Syncing bills and client invoices to QuickBooks is done from the web app. Navigate to Finance > Bills or Client Invoices and use the Pending Sync button.

Templates
Creating and managing Estimate Templates, Job Templates, and Document Templates is web-only. Navigate to Templates to manage these.

Timesheet Approval
Reviewing and approving timesheets submitted by your team is done from the web app. Navigate to Timesheets to view pending submissions.

Safety Administration
Setting up Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Toolbox Meetings, inductions, and reviewing incident reports is managed from the web app under the Safety tab.

Mobile App - Field and On-Site

The mobile app is designed for your team in the field. It gives staff, subcontractors, and site supervisors fast access to the information and actions they need on site, without needing a laptop.

Tasks
View, update, and complete tasks assigned to you. Use the My Tasks toggle to filter to your own tasks. Add comments and attachments directly from site.

Schedule
View your schedule items across all jobs, respond to schedule assignments, and propose schedule changes directly from the app. The builder is notified and can accept or review changes on the web app.

Timesheets
Log hours worked using the Timer feature (clock in/clock out in real time) or enter times manually at the end of a shift. Timesheets are submitted against a job and cost category, or a non-job-related task, and routed to a manager for approval via the web app.

Daily Logs
Create Daily Log entries directly from a job — add weather notes, progress updates, and photos from site. Navigate to Jobs > select the job > Daily Logs.

Job Files
Access plans, drawings, and shared files for a job directly from the mobile app. Navigate to Jobs > select the job > Files. This is particularly useful for reviewing plans on site without printing.

Safety — JHAs and Incident Reports
View Job Hazard Analyses assigned to a job and submit Incident Reports directly from the app. Navigate to Jobs > select the job > Safety.

Site Check-In / Inductions (Safety Users)
Workers arriving on site can scan the site QR code to check in, complete their induction, acknowledge JHAs, and upload compliance documents — all from the mobile app without needing a web account.

Selections
Review approved selections linked to a job from the mobile app. Navigate to Jobs > select the job > Selections.
