The Editor: Formatting, Blocks, and Shortcuts

In this article:

Create Blocks with Slash Commands

Type / on a new line to open the block menu and select from the following options:

Blocks

  • Text & Headings

  • Bullet List

  • Numbered List

  • Code Block

  • Math Block

  • Table

  • Image

Actions

  • Cite

  • Autocomplete

If you type / on the same line as a section of text, Jenni-specific actions like Cite and Autocomplete will be listed first.

Markdown Shortcuts

Jenni supports Markdown-style formatting, so you can quickly format your writing with keyboard shortcuts.

For example:

  • ## + space → Heading

  • text*italic

  • *text**bold

  • list item → Bullet list

  • code → Inline code

To see the full list, click“⌘ Shortcuts” in the bottom left of the Jenni workspace.

Selection State Toolbar

Upon selecting some content in the editor, the selection toolbar will appear.

Aside from citing, quoting in chat, and AI edit you can format the selected content:

  • Highlight (3 colors)

  • Bold

  • Italicize

  • Underline

  • Strikethrough

  • Add Inline Code Block

  • Link

Resting Toolbar

When no text is selected, there is also a resting toolbar at the bottom of the editor which can be used to:

  • Add Blocks

  • Undo & Redo Writing

  • View Document Word Count
