Using Category Filter on Product Category Pages

Note: Category filters generally don’t work on Category Archive pages because these pages are designed to display items exclusively from the selected category. The purpose is to keep the content relevant, and not to include items from other categories.

Why Category Filters Don’t Work on Category Pages

  • Specific URL Requirements: Filters based on a category reference the page URL, identifying it as belonging to a specific category. Due to this setup, the filter cannot display products from other categories.

  • Category Page Limitations: Each Category Archive page is created to display only the products within that particular category, maintaining clarity and relevance for users.

However, you can add alternative filters that work within the constraints of Category Pages, such as filters based on product tags. Here’s how:

Adding a Product Tag Filter

  1. Go to JetSmartFilters > Add New.

  2. Choose a Checkbox Filter as your filter type.

  3. Adjust the settings as needed for a Product Tag filter.

  4. Add filter to Category Page page and set up additional settings.

Alternative: Using Category Filters on a Static Page

If you want to use a Category filter, you can place it on a static page, such as the Shop page, where it can display items from multiple categories.

Enhancing Navigation with Terms

Consider these options to enhance user navigation:

  1. Add Menu Items with links to specific categories (terms).

    1. After you can simply display it with any menu widget

  2. Create a Term Listing and make each term clickable, so users can easily navigate to each Category Page.

With this setup, you provide users with a more dynamic filtering experience on general pages, while keeping the Category Pages streamlined.
