How to Navigate Social Media Once You Have A Job

Post on social media, it’s your profile. Share jokes, memes, videos, family outings, etc. But keep in mind what you are posting. There is nothing wrong with posting some images of you at a braai having some drinks with friends. However, it’s another thing entirely posting pictures of the crazy weekend you had where you were sloshed and you are barely recognizable.

Always keep this in mind: If I was a hiring manager or a potential employer, would I want a person who is posting certain things to work for my company?

You’ll be surprised, one of the first things hiring managers do after going through your CV and LinkedIn profile is to look at what you are posting on social media.

Also, keep in mind what you say on social media sites. People have lost their jobs because of what they have posted on social media. Some people come to mind, Justine Sacco is one example as she thought she was making a joke, but that one joke ruined her life. There are many more examples of these instances happening but keep this in mind. Oh, and even if you add that disclaimer that these tweets don’t reflect the views of my employer doesn’t help.
