BNG Tool: Area Totals Error

What to do if there is a message that says there is an issue with the total area lost

Written by Oliver Lewis

If you see this message when pressing Continue:

“The total area of intended habitat parcels (newly created area) should be equal to the total area lost of existing habitat parcels on your site…”

And you’re unable to move forward, please email info@joesblooms.com to get support.

Here’s what’s happening and what to do.

What This Error Means

Usually this means that the baseline habitats pages had been amended so that the total area of all the baselines is less than the total site area.

Step One: Go to the Onsite Habitats page and check the total site area

This is found at the bottom of the page:

If the two values aren't the same, please add additional habitats to the baseline page to make sure that the baseline is completely filled in.

Step two: When you have filled in the on-site habitats, go to the Intended Works page and then press "continue"

The error should have disappeared.

What to do if the error remains

Redraw Post-Development Parcels One by One

  1. Delete one post-development parcel.

  2. Redraw it cleanly.

  3. Press save.

  4. Check if the totals move closer together.

If not:

  • Delete the next one.

  • Redraw.

  • Repeat.
