The following is a short summary of the habitat type and how to create/enhance it to a "good" condition. For an informed position, please refer to official, up-to-date Government guidance or the UK Government's Condition Assessment Sheet.

🔺 IMPORTANT

This habitat should ONLY be selected if both of the following are true:

  • The parcel is over 400m² in size; AND

  • The bracken is NOT under a forest or woodland canopy.

Description: Land dominated by Bracken Pteridium aquilinum (covering at least 95% canopy cover at the height of the growing season).

If you wish to select this habitat on a habitat selection screen, it can be found under Grassland (see guide).

Key Species

Special Notes

  • Doesn't include sites of under 0.04ha bracken (i.e. 400m²); instead, this should be considered as part of the broader habitat parcel the patch is found in.

  • Doesn't include bracken found under a forest or woodland canopy.

  • Other species may be present, but Pteridium aquilinum should be dominant.
