Our brand new AI Assistant feature incorporates generative AI to deliver a seamless contract experience - but how does it work?

How can AI Assistant improve your contract process?

AI Assistant can help customers:

  • Draft contracts, provided there are defined guardrails in place

  • Summarize legal text

  • Improve drafting, by removing legal jargon, or simplifying information

  • Identify common legal terms or concepts, to help users identify trends

  • Manage risks by highlighting unusual or onerous clauses

These opportunities will help users get to ‘yes’ faster, streamlining the contract process in one collaborative platform.

How to get started with AI Assistant

Step 1: access AI Assistant

In Juro’s editor, click the sparkle icon in the editor toolbar. This will open up a separate sidebar that enables you to write prompts and generate detailed responses:

💡 Note - To access the AI Assistant, you need (i) the latest version of the Juro editor, and (ii) the correct level of access (admin or editor level - the lowest tier, user, cannot access it) 💡

If you haven’t yet activated the AI Assistant in your account, you’ll have the option to request access using a simple form.

There are three key components to the AI Assistant sidebar:

  • Request. This is where you can add prompts, providing as much detail as possible to generate the best results (we’d always recommend running output past a second pair of eyes, though).

By default the AI Assistant considers the whole document for its responses. We recommend focusing on specific clauses or parts by selecting them first, or explaining to the Assistant what clause you'd like it to focus on - this will produce a quicker and more specific result.

  • AI Playbook. This field allows you to add guardrails to help the AI platform respond more accurately. The playbook ensures that the output of AI Assistant aligns with your contract policies.

  • Response. This is where the response is generated, which you can then review, update and insert into the contract, or copy for use elsewhere.

Here are some helpful videos:

Step 2: try your first prompt

To get a sense for how AI Assistant works, load up an example contract and try the following.

(i) Highlight a clause in the contract:

(ii) Type in the request box “amend this clause to make it shorter”.

For the AI draft prompt recommended above, when you have the response you will be able to insert that amended clause into the contract by clicking “insert”.

Here are some other prompts we recommend trying:

  • Summarize this contract in 100 words

  • Make this clause mutual

  • Make this contract shorter and in plain English

  • Delete any [indemnity] clause in this contract

  • Change the jurisdiction and governing law of this contract to [jurisdiction]

Step 3: Refine your prompts

Now you have got started with AI Assistant it’s time to build more sophisticated prompts. To do this, you’ll need to enter a series of prompts in the AI Assistant request box.

Type your first prompt as: “Summarize this contract for me”. When you have the response, type in “now, make the summary shorter”. Then type in “now, put this summary in the format of an email I can share with my CEO”.

You should now have a concise email drafted and all you need to do is hit copy and then share it with your CEO in an email client of your choosing.

Step 4: set up a playbook

AI playbooks exist to ensure that the response from your prompts aligns with your internal legal policies. They include “guardrails” that help guide the outputs of prompts towards the intentions of the legal team.

To try this out, in the box called “AI playbook” type in:

“You are a New York-qualified attorney with a specialism in commercial contracts. You act for the customer in this transaction. Under our playbook, we never accept: (a) liability caps for the customer in excess of $100,000; (b) any governing law other than New York law; (c) a default interest rate higher than 18% per annum; or (d) any warranty period shorter than 12 months”

You can then test out some prompts (see above for examples) in the “request” box that will align with this playbook to test it out.

We recommend 'identify non-compliance with my playbook'.

Admins can also set these playbooks on a template level, so that your team can use the playbook you've set up on every contract generated from that template. Otherwise, playbooks set on a document level will be visible only to you.

Who can use AI Assistant?

AI Assistant is only available for customers on our Growth and Enterprise plans.

What are the limitations of AI Assistant?

As with any AI-enabled tool, there are limitations to what the product can do:

  • AI platforms have been known to ‘hallucinate’ and fabricate information, so users need to double-check outputs from generative AI before using them

  • AI Assistant only has context from the document it’s in - no model can predict your exact situation, so you need to approach the output with this in mind

  • As with most AI-enabled tools, there is a word limit of roughly 7,500 words, which includes the prompt and context as well as the output

  • The AI Assistant deliberately does not keep a history of your requests and results. This is in order to protect your privacy.

It’s important to remember that AI platforms aren’t always accurate - for the best results, make sure to check the output, and run answers in Juro past a legal professional.

Generative AI offers a ton of opportunities for businesses, but it’s also important to keep up-to-date with the risks involved. Check out our article on key considerations when using AI Assistant for an overview.
