A temporary plate (a.k.a. temporary permit or temporary registration) allows you to drive your new vehicle before registering it at your local DMV. If we've issued your temporary plate, you'll receive an email notifying you that it's available for download alongside your other transaction documents. Print the permit and tape it in your back window. If your seller is located in CA, MN, or HI, you can use your seller's license plates, if they haven't expired.
When should I receive my temporary permit?
You'll receive your temporary permit shortly after you pick up the vehicle from the seller. If you need your temporary permit in advance, you can request one on your dashboard the day before you plan to pick up. Please note that we are unable to send temporary permits on Sundays due to state law.
If your vehicle is being shipped, you'll be able to request a temporary permit on your dashboard.
