Manually Attributing Discount Codes to Affiliates

Manually assign Shopify discount codes to affiliates for automatic attribution when codes are used at checkout.

Kickbooster allows you to manually link Shopify discount codes to specific Affiliates, giving you the freedom to create targeted promotions and manage them more effectively within your referral program.

Feature Overview

With this feature, you can create unique discount codes in your Shopify store using custom settings (e.g. value, expiry date, usage limits, etc.)—different from your program’s default settings—and manually assign those codes to an Affiliate in Kickbooster.

When one of these discount codes is used at checkout, Kickbooster will automatically attribute the order to the assigned Affiliate, even if the Affiliate’s referral link wasn’t used.

How to Attribute a Discount Code to an Affiliate

  1. Create the discount code in Shopify:

    • Go to your Shopify admin and create a discount code with your preferred settings.

    • Take note of the exact discount code (this must match what you enter in Kickbooster).

  2. Go to the Affiliate’s profile in Kickbooster:

    • From your Kickbooster dashboard, go to the Affiliates page.

    • Click on the Affiliate you want to assign the discount code to.

  3. Manually add the discount code:

    • In the Affiliate’s profile, look for the affiliate's primary Discount Code, click to edit.

    • Click Manual attribution codes tab, enter the Shopify discount code exactly as it appears, and save.

      • Note: You can also use a wildcard (*) to match any code starting with the specified string. eg: ABC-* will match ABC-123 and ABC-456.

That’s it! Any orders using that discount code will now be automatically attributed to the selected Affiliate.

Important Note: Attribution using discount codes will still follow your program’s product eligibility rules. If the products purchased are not eligible for rewards under your program settings, the Affiliate will not receive a commission—even if their code is used.
