Using Kit as a Speech-Language Pathologist to Collect Data

Updated yesterday

As an Speech-Language Pathologist, you’re helping students grow in articulation, language, and social communication. That means tracking a lot of data—both numbers and context. Kit makes it easy to keep everything organized so you can focus on what matters most: helping students communicate.

Let’s jump into some real-life examples of how you can use Kit’s data collection feature with a variety of student goals (and a few fun pro tips along the way).

🔤 Scenario 1: Articulation

Example Goal:

Noah will correctly produce the /r/ sound in all word positions with 80% accuracy across 3 consecutive sessions.

While working on /r/, you log correct vs. incorrect productions with the thumbs up/down buttons in Kit. You also use the Record feature so Noah can listen back and hear his progress. At the end of the activity, you add a quick note in your wrap-up Session Notes section to the event to summarize how Noah did and what to focus on next time.

🗨️ Scenario 2: Expressive Language

Example Goal:

Leila will independently produce complete sentences using correct verb tense in 4 out of 5 observed opportunities.

Leila is practicing complete sentences. Each attempt is logged with the thumbs up/down buttons in Kit. You capture the level of assistance with the Assistance Level dropdown, and in Subjective Notes, you jot down: “needed help with verb tense.”

🤝 Scenario 3: Social Communication

Example Goal:

Omar will initiate greetings and respond appropriately in structured social settings in 4 out of 5 opportunities.

Omar is practicing greetings and turn-taking. You use the Supporting Data Calculators in Kit to track prompts (verbal, visual, etc). In Subjective Notes, you add: “initiated greeting independently today.”

👉 Quick tip: If Omar participates in a role-play where he initiates and responds to greetings, record a short video clip, upload it to Google Drive, and paste the link into your wrap-up Session Notes in Kit. That way, you’ve got both data and a communication sample to share with his team or family.

✨ With Kit, Speech-Language Pathologists can capture both the numbers and the nuances of communication growth, giving a full picture of student progress.
