What are the boxes in the IGCSE textbooks for?

Find out about the boxes in our IGCSE textbooks

Written by Courtney Librizzi

We use various types of boxes throughout our textbooks to highlight

  • tips

  • important information

  • advice

  • activities to support key components of the Cambridge IGCSE™ syllabus.

To make them easy to spot and distinguish, they come in different styles and colors. In total, there are six types of boxes, and they are included in the textbooks when relevant to the topic.

Take a look at the different boxes and their descriptions:

The 'Learning intentions' boxes are included in each overview section and provide a general summary of the curriculum material covered in the next subtopic.
The 'Study skills' boxes offer guidance to support your learning.
The 'Practical skills' boxes offer guidance to help you develop experimental techniques and skills.
The 'Making connections' boxes provide links and applications to the real world to bring the course to life.
The 'Activity' boxes offer ideas and inspiration for individual and group exercises.
The 'Key terms' boxes are included in each "Summary and Key Terms" section, and give you the opportunity to test your knowledge of the main concepts in the subtopic.
