Kognity's driving question boards are student-led and teacher-guided, making the transition to 3-dimensional learning easier and attainable. These boards are the first step for students to take a more active role in their 3-dimensional learning and instruction. The goal isn’t to come up with the perfect question or solution; rather, students are identifying gaps in their understanding that might help the class make sense of the specific phenomenon.

As a part of each unit, teachers and students work together to create sets of questions, grouped into categories, that will guide them through their science learning, ensuring that every learner is recognized for their own curiosity.

Teachers will be prompted with teacher instructions to guide them through the goal of the driving question board, how to build it, and how to drive student curiosity. This ensures both student and teacher confidence is supported.

Once a DQB is uploaded, teachers and students can find it under the introduction on the overview page and in the “Unit binder” in the book.

The driving question board itself is created by the students but with the facilitation of the teacher. The activity is done by the class outside the Kognity platform but with clear instructions available in Kognity if they need it. When it is done, teachers add it to the platform so that it is available to everyone.

In the Return to the Driving Question Board content options, students are encouraged to not only answer but also come up with new questions to deepen their investigations.

The teacher can go back to the “Create the driving question board” and upload a new version of the board to make sure students have the latest version at hand when needed.
