Are breed-specific diseases excluded? 🐶🐱

All breeds are welcome, and breed-specific diseases are not necessarily excluded.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

According to our insurance terms, we currently do not cover any costs related to treatments or procedures for congenital diseases (e.g., correction of malformations or deformities). This applies regardless of when the disease was first observed.

This exclusion does not apply to diagnoses specifically mentioned in section 5.b) of our insurance terms.

These breed-specific diseases have a specific waiting period of 12 months:

  • Hip Dysplasia (HD)

  • Elbow Dysplasia (ED)

  • Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD)

  • Patellar Luxation (kneecap dislocation)

  • Eyelid abnormalities (entropion, ectropion, prolapse of the nictitating gland)

  • Brachycephalic syndrome

  • Chronic gingivostomatitis in cats

When assessing whether a disease is due to a predisposition or external influences, we take into account many factors. Our experts who handle your claims are familiar with most breed-specific diseases, and upon request, we rely on the diagnosis and judgment of the treating veterinarian and can obtain a second opinion in more complex cases.
