How can I cancel my insurance?

A pet health or surgery insurance policy should be flexible to adapt to changes in your life. That’s why we offer you the option to cancel your policy at any time after the first policy year—easily via email or chat.

When can you cancel your insurance?

Your insurance period lasts 12 months and is automatically renewed each year.

If you wish to cancel your policy within the first year, cancellation is generally only possible at the end of the policy year, according to our insurance terms. In some cases, early cancellation is possible—more information on this can be found below.

After the first year, you can cancel your policy at any time, either immediately or at a later date of your choosing.

ℹ️ Important: If you have used the preventive care budget after the first year, you can only cancel at the end of the current policy period. If you have requested cancellation at a later date, please refrain from submitting any further invoices for the preventive care budget.

Early cancellation – When is it possible?

In some cases, you may be able to cancel your insurance before the first year has ended or in subsequent years, even if you have used the preventive care budget. These situations include, but are not limited to:

✔️ Transfer of ownership: Your pet is transferred to a new owner who does not wish to take over the policy. This also applies if you have returned your pet to the breeder or an animal shelter.

✔️ Your pet is missing: If your pet has run away or is lost, you can send us the official lost pet report (e.g., from TASSO or FINDEFIX), and we will cancel your policy.

✔️ Passing of your beloved pet: We understand how difficult it is to lose a pet 💔. In this case, we can terminate your policy early—just reach out to us, and we’ll take care of everything.

✔️ Death of the policyholder: If the policyholder passes away, we can cancel the policy early. In this case, we only require a copy of the death certificate.

✔️ Relocation abroad: If you are moving to another country, send us your deregistration confirmation, and we will take care of the cancellation.

How does cancellation work?

Do I need to send a letter? Can I cancel by phone?

You must cancel your policy in writing, which means that cancellation via phone is unfortunately not possible.

If you want to cancel your insurance, simply contact us via email at support@lassie.de or through our chat. There’s no need to send a letter—an email or a chat message is completely sufficient! 🤗

How can I ensure my cancellation is processed quickly?

  • Provide all relevant information: This includes your policy number, the desired cancellation date, and any necessary supporting documents. If you are contacting us via chat on our website, please also provide your email address so we can reply to you!

  • If requesting an early cancellation, include supporting documents with your request. This helps us process your case faster (e.g., death certificate, lost pet report, or dated confirmation from the new owner). If you are unsure which document to provide, feel free to contact us via chat, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

  • Avoid using the preventive care budget after requesting cancellation: If you are in your 2nd year of insurance or later, and have submitted a cancellation request for a future date, please ensure you do not submit any invoices for the preventive care budget, as this would invalidate the cancellation.
