What is a deductible? How does it work?

A deductible is the portion of the claim cost that you must cover yourself in the event of a claim.

Variable Deductibles for Health & Surgery insurance

For Lassie surgery and health insurance, you can choose between a 0%, 20%, or 40% deductible. If you select a 20% deductible, you will cover 20% of the veterinary costs yourself.

Example of a 20% Deductible:

Your vet bill is €250, and you have chosen a 20% deductible in your policy.

  • Your out-of-pocket share is €50 (20% of €250).

  • Lassie reimburses the remaining €200.

With a 20% deductible, Lassie covers 80% of all reimbursable costs on the vet invoice. The benefit for you: your monthly insurance premium is lower compared to a 0% deductible. πŸ™Œ

If you select a 0% deductible, Lassie covers 100% of all reimbursable costs, meaning you pay nothing out of pocket. However, the insurance premium you pay with 0% deductible will be slightly higher compared to plans with a 20% or 40% deductible.

⚠️ Reimbursable costs: Please remember that some parts of the invoice may not be reimbursable in accordance with the insurance terms. For example: supplementary and dietetic feed, or transportation costs for the pet or the veterinarian.

Does the deductible also apply to the preventive budget?

Yes, the deductible you chose also applies to the preventive care budget. However, you still receive the full preventive care budget each year.

Example of a 20% deductible for preventive care:

You have the Midi plan, which includes a €100 preventive care budget.

  • You receive a vet bill for €100 for preventive treatments (e.g., vaccinations, tick prevention, nail trimming, and issuing a pet passport).

  • Lassie reimburses €80, and you cover €20.

  • You still have €20 remaining in your preventive care budget for the rest of the insurance year.

Fixed Deductible

No fixed deductible applies to the health or surgery insurance. However, for dog liability insurance, you can choose between a fixed deductible of €0 or €150, and no variable deductible will be applied.

If you choose a deductible of €150:

  • If your claim has a value of less than €150, Lassie will not cover the cost.

  • In case of an incident with a reimbursable cost of more than €150, you cover the first €150 yourself, and Lassie will cover the rest.

If you choose a deductible of €0, Lassie will cover all reimbursable costs, and you don't pay anything out of pocket.
