What if I adopted or imported my pet from abroad? 🗺

Did you adopt your companion abroad? Here’s all the information you need regarding insurance conditions in this situation.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

If you adopted or imported your pet from abroad, you do not need a veterinary certificate to take out insurance.
The general waiting period remains 30 days from the start of the insurance. To know all the waiting periods for our insurance, please refer to section 4.3 of our general terms and conditions.

Note that the insurance will only start once the animal is in France. However, you can subscribe to the insurance before your pet’s arrival. Just make sure the start date of the insurance is set no earlier than the day your pet arrives at your home.

For animals coming from abroad: Tests for Mediterranean diseases (such as babesiosis, dirofilariasis, ehrlichiosis, or leishmaniasis) are not covered or included in the preventive budget, meaning the costs for these tests are non-reimbursable. You can find an overview of all the benefits included in the preventive budget in our insurance conditions (see section 4. Scope and coverage, subsection 4.4. Preventive budget).

Furthermore, we cannot cover treatments for Mediterranean diseases under the insurance, as it’s possible that your pet contracted these diseases before arriving in France, and thus before the insurance was taken out. Other illnesses or injuries your pet may have brought with it (i.e., pre-existing conditions) are also excluded from insurance coverage.
