Activating the PINpad payment terminal (US customers)

Activating PAX terminals using Fortis as the Payment Processor

Written by Kurt Bernhard

This article is for customers who have already finalized their merchant account setup with Fortis, and need to activate the PAX PINpad terminal attached to the Value Add Center kiosk.

If you have already been processing with the PINpad terminal installed on the VAC, it has already been activated.

If you are looking for troubleshooting help, see our article: Credit Card Processing Issues (US Customers)

If you are looking for installation instructions to hook up a new PAX PINpad terminal, see one of the following articles:

For steps on how to activate a PINpad terminal, continue reading below.

The only PAX terminals that work with our system, using Fortis as the payment processor, are the PAX S300 PINpad or the PAX A35 PINpad.

Please see the activation steps for your specific model of PINpad terminal below:

Activating the PAX A35

For PAX A35 PINpads, an un-activated PINpad should show the screen below:

If you see the Paygistix icon on the PINpad terminal's home screen, this terminal has already been activated.

Opening the Paygistix payment app for the first time will trigger the terminal to sync with your VAC kiosk, and after the software sync occurs (usually within the first 10 minutes of the payment app running) your PINpad terminal will be ready to start processing credit/debit card transactions.

Note: If you do NOT see the Paygistix icon on this home screen, contact the Laundroworks support team so we can activate/program your PINpad terminal.

It is best to have the serial number of your PINpad terminal(s) handy, as that will be required in order for us to program/activate them.

If these are new terminals, the serial number will be printed on the box the terminal arrives in.

Activating the PAX S300

For PAX S300 PINpads, an un-activated PINpad should show the screen below:

To activate the PINpad, simply reboot the power to this PINpad.

Do this by opening the Value Add Center, locating the DC power jack, and then unplugging and reconnecting it (the VAC should remain powered ON when you do this):

The PAX S300 PINpad terminals should activate themselves upon reboot. During the reboot, the terminal should start download various updates which loads the payment software onto the terminal.

This normally takes approx. 5 to 10 minutes to complete;

however you need to ensure that the following is true before rebooting the terminal:

  1. The VAC kiosk has an internet connection and is reporting as Online on the LaundroPortal

  2. The PINpad terminal's RED ethernet plug has an ethernet cable plugged into it, and that ethernet cable's other end is plugged into the VAC Control Board's AUX1 Port

If the PINpad returns to the same screen as before (showing BroadPOS), it means that the configuration for your terminal has not been finalized yet.

It usually takes several days to create the configuration after your payment processing account is approved.

Contact the Laundroworks Support Team so we can look into the status of your Fortis Merchant Account.

After a successful payment software download, the terminal should display the name and logo of the payment processor (PAX S300s using Fortis as the processor will display "Payment Logistics"):

Once you see the above screen, you may need to wait up to 10 minutes for the VAC Control Board to synchronize with the PINpad terminal's payment software.

Once the sync happens, you'll be ready to accept credit/debit card payments!

Configuring Static IPs

In rare cases, you may need to configure the static IP Address settings on the payment terminal manually (for both PAX A35s and PAX S300s).

All PINpad terminal's that connect to a VAC kiosk will use the exact same Static IP Address settings.

See the attached PDF for how to do this on PAX S300 terminals,

for PAX A35 terminals, you will need to contact the Laundroworks Support team to get passwords in order to access the PINpad terminal's various settings menus.
