This article is for customers who receive a PAX A35 PINpad terminal (for new or existing locations) and need to install/replace the PINpad terminal for the Value Add Center kiosk
PAX A35 PINpad shown below:
If you received a Stripe S700 PINpad terminal (shown below)
Please follow the linked installation guide for Stripe S700 PINpad Terminals:
If you received a Verifone P630 PINpad terminal (shown below)
Please follow the installation guide for Verifone P630 PINpad Terminals:
PAX A35 PINpad Installation
The following shows the various connections of an PAX A35 PINpad. All items below are included with an A35 PINpad terminal kit, except for the blue ethernet cable, which is supplied with your VAC kiosk:
Note the A35's provided wiring harness may differ from the one in the picture above, as newer harnesses usually do NOT have the 2 connectors that are marked above as "Not Used"
Ethernet Cable Connection:
The A35's ethernet port will be a RED colored connector, on the PINpad terminal's harness. You ONLY need to connect this ONE connection to the VAC's main control board:
On the VAC Control board, you will find a short blue ethernet cable preinstalled in it's AUX1 ethernet port (this is the only ethernet port that can be used for PINpad terminal communication)
Use this short blue ethernet cable to connect the PINpad terminal's RED Ethernet port to the VAC control board's AUX Port:
Power Cable Connection:
Below is a photo of where the USB C power supply cable should be connected to the PINpad terminal's harness.
The other end of the USB C power cable, should be plugged into a USB power adaptor, and the adaptor should be plugged into the power bar that provides power to all VAC components:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Some PINpad terminals will have a USB cable that provides power to the PINpad, as well as another USB cable that is used for communication purposes.
With our system, only the ethernet cable is used for communication between the PINpad terminal and the VAC kiosk, so ONLY the ethernet cable and the USB POWER cable are used.
Do NOT connect the USB data cable to the VAC control board's USB ports, this cable is not needed
For The PINpad terminal's Power cable;
Do NOT use the VAC control board's USB ports to power the PINpad terminal.
You should always use the power brick that came with the PINpad terminal to provide power to it.
Check PINpad terminal is receiving power:
With both Power and Ethernet connected, check the PINpad terminal's screen to make sure it's receiving power.
If the screen is not powered ON, check to make sure you are using the correct USB cable to provide it with power, as the PINpad terminal should power ON immediately once it's connected to power.
The power cable for the PAX A35 is a separate USB C cable that came with your PINpad terminal.
This cable needs to be plugged into the PINpad terminal's wiring harness (shown below):
The other end of the USB power cable plugs into the USB C phone charger style power brick, which should be plugged into the power stripe providing all VAC electronics with power.
Mounting to the VAC:
After the PINpad has been connected to the VAC, install the security screw into the PINpad terminal (RED circle pictured below)
The PINpad terminal's mounting bracket (bracket that comes with your VAC) can be removed by loosening the 4 nuts from the inside of the of the VAC (RED squares shown in picture above):
Once connected, tie up all the loose/unused cables to keep them out of the way.
Checking PINpad terminal operation:
Once the PINpad is powered ON, wait until it's finished booting up.
Once finished, the PINpad's display should land on the following home screen:
If your PINpad's display does not look like the one above, and instead you're seeing a screen that shows a bunch of different Android Apps, you will need to open the Payment Processors payment app directly, by clicking on the Paygistix app icon, to get the PINpad terminal working:
Note: if the Paygistix App is not showing on the above home screen, and you only see the following:
It's likely this is a brand new PINpad terminal that's just been connected to the internet; so you may need to wait up to 20 mins to allow the PINpad to download the "Paygistix" app payment software.
This download should take place automatically, once the PINpad is connected to the internet for the first time.
If you're still not seeing the Paygistix app after approx. 30 mins, get in touch with our support team as it's possible the terminal still needs to activated/programmed to the store's Fortis Merchant account.
Once the PINpad terminal is displaying the correct home/idle screen, to figure out if the PINpad terminal is ready to be tested, check the Payment Status light on the VAC control board:
When the PINpad terminal is first connected to the VAC, this Payment Status light will be RED like in the above picture, and you will see the following error in the VAC status on the LaundroPortal:
Once the PINpad has been powered ON, and is correctly running it's Payment software, the VAC's Payment Status light will turn GREEN, and the error in the VAC status will clear, once the VAC software syncs with the PINpad terminal's Payment software.
It can take up to 10 minutes before the Payment Status light turns GREEN, so simply leave everything connected for 10 mins.
Once the Payment Status light turns green, the PINpad terminal is ready to be tested.
If the Payment Status light is still RED, after waiting for 10 mins and you've confirmed the PINpad is connected to the VAC correctly, and it's Paygistix app is running, get in touch with our support team.
PCI Compliance
The VAC provides its own isolated network (with a firewall) at the AUX1 ethernet port the PINpad terminal connects, so no network scans are required to stay PCI Compliant
