What is an NPI?

An NPI (National Provider Identifier) is a unique 10-digit identification number assigned to health care providers in the United States. This number is issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is used to identify individual health care providers or organizations in a standardized way.

NPI Lookup in Captello

Captello provides a built-in NPI Lookup feature that allows users to search for healthcare provider details using their NPI number. This tool is particularly useful for automatically retrieving contact information such as:

  • Provider name

  • Address

  • Phone number

  • And other associated details

How the NPI Lookup Works

  • The NPI Lookup function works with numeric fields only.

  • When an NPI number is entered into a numeric field, Captello uses it to perform a real-time lookup.

  • The system then pulls the corresponding data from the official NPI registry.

The data retrieved from the NPI registry is returned and displayed in Captello fields based on predefined mapping rules. These rules determine which pieces of information are shown and where they appear within your Captello form:
