How to Create and Manage Lessons

Updated this week

TL;DR: You can create custom lessons in seconds by picking a subject and choosing your students. SparkAI handles the planning, leveling, and tracking so you can focus on teaching.

Planning lessons is the heart of your homeschool day. LearnSpark gives you flexible ways to turn your big goals into daily wins.

Whether you like to plan a month in advance or follow a sudden "spark" of interest, SparkAI is here to help. It creates high-quality work that fits your child’s unique learning style and academic level.

Three Ways to Create Lessons

There are three main ways to build content depending on your schedule:

  • Library Lessons: Best for building a collection of topics to use whenever you are ready.

  • Batch Generation: Best for planning your whole week on the calendar in one click.

  • Curiosity Topics: Best for "on-the-fly" learning when your child asks a deep question.

1. Creating a Lesson in Your Library

Lessons created in your Library aren't scheduled on your calendar yet. This is great for "rainy day" activities or future planning.

  1. Click on Lessons in the left-hand menu.

  2. Click the + Generate with SparkAI button in the top right.

  3. Choose Lesson Plan.

  4. Select your students. You can use Pods to teach a group while giving each child the right level of work.

  5. Enter the subject and how long the lesson should last. You can even add a fun Theme like "Dinosaurs" or "Ancient Egypt"!

💡 Good to know: Every time you leave Feedback after a lesson, SparkAI learns what works. This helps personalize your LearnSpark experience for future generations!

2. Planning Your Weekly Schedule

If you love being organized, the Weekly Schedule is your best friend. It is the fastest way to see your whole week at once.

Simply drag and drop subjects onto your calendar. Once your week is mapped out, use the Batch Generate tool to create all those lessons at the same time. This turns hours of planning into a few seconds of waiting!

3. Catching Curiosity Moments

Sometimes the best learning happens when your child asks, "How do planes stay in the air?" You can turn that curiosity into a lesson instantly using the Curiosity Topics feature on your dashboard.

These spontaneous lessons are automatically tied to your child's Mastery Profile. This means their natural interests count toward their academic progress and school hours automatically!

⚠️ Heads up: Using SparkAI to generate or regenerate a lesson uses AI Credits. Make sure you are happy with your lesson settings before hitting generate!

How Lessons are Organized

Each SparkAI lesson follows a helpful path to keep learning on track:

  • Warm-up: A quick activity to spark interest.

  • Teaching Guide: Clear notes to help you explain the topic.

  • Guided Practice: Fun tasks to complete together.

  • Independent Work: Activities for your child to try on their own.

  • Wrap-up: A final check to celebrate what they learned.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I edit a lesson after it is made?

Absolutely! You can edit any part of the text, change the activities, or add your own notes to make it perfect for your family.

What are AI Credits used for?

Credits are the "fuel" for SparkAI. They are used for generating lessons, projects, adventure ideas, and even for SparkAI to update your child's mastery profile behind the scenes.

How do I teach multiple kids at once?

When creating a lesson, select all the students who will join. SparkAI will automatically create "Pods" so each child gets work at their specific Operating Level.

Do I need credits to see old lessons?

No. Your library is always free to view. Credits are only used when SparkAI creates something new or analyzes data for you.

What if the lesson is too hard or too easy?

Use the feedback button! By telling the system the difficulty was off, SparkAI adjusts for the next time, ensuring a better LearnSpark experience every day.
