How to Mix Multiple Curriculums

Updated over a week ago

TL;DR: LearnSpark lets you mix different teaching styles and standards together. SparkAI bridges the gaps to make sure your student meets their goals while you teach your way.

Many families do not stick to just one textbook or one way of teaching. You might love a specific Math guide but prefer a nature-based approach for Science. This is often called an Eclectic Approach.

LearnSpark is designed to be flexible. The platform does not force you into one box. Instead, it helps you blend your favorite resources into one organized plan for your student.

How SparkAI Bridges the Gap

When you use many different books, it can be hard to know if you are missing important skills. SparkAI solves this by looking at all your imported guides at once.

SparkAI performs a Gap Analysis across your different resources. It identifies which "Micro-skills" are covered by your Math book and which ones are handled by your History projects. If there is a "gap" where no book is teaching a required standard, SparkAI will suggest a custom lesson to fill that hole.

πŸ’‘ Good to know: You can upload as many different curriculum PDFs or standards as you like. SparkAI treats them as one unified learning goal for your child.

How to Mix and Match Curriculums

To start your custom journey, follow these steps to bring your different resources together:

  1. Go to the Curriculums tab on your dashboard.

  2. Upload your first curriculum choice, such as a state standard or a specific subject guide.

  3. Click Add New again to upload a second or third framework.

  4. SparkAI will begin Skills Decomposition. This means it breaks every guide down into tiny pieces to see how they fit together.

  5. Visit your Mastery Profile to see a "Heatmap" of how these different topics are being covered.

Managing Different Teaching Styles

A mixed approach isn't just about what you teach, but how you teach it. You might want Science to be hands-on but English to be very structured.

You can set different Teaching Styles for different subjects. When you generate a lesson, SparkAI uses your chosen style to rewrite the content so it matches your family's values. This ensures that your LearnSpark experience feels consistent and personalized for your student.

⚠️ Heads up: If two curriculums overlap (like both teaching basic addition), SparkAI will recognize this. It won't make you teach the same thing twice!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a curriculum that isn't already in your library?

Yes! You can upload any PDF or text-based curriculum. SparkAI will read it and map it to your student's progress just like any other resource.

Will mixing curriculums confuse the Gap Analysis?

Not at all. SparkAI is designed to handle multiple sources. It looks for the underlying skills in every document and organizes them into a single list of goals for your student.

What if my curriculums use different grade levels?

That is perfectly fine. LearnSpark focuses on Mastery rather than age. SparkAI will track where your student is in each subject, regardless of what the "grade level" on the book says.

Does this use more SparkAI credits?

Analyzing a new curriculum uses credits for the initial setup. Once it is mapped, generating lessons from your "mixed" plan uses the same amount of credits as a single curriculum.

What happens if I change my mind later?

You can add or remove curriculums at any time. SparkAI will simply recalculate your progress and show you any new gaps that might appear.
