B2 Art files: size, format, and quality

Our art file must be a JPG or PNG of at least 6 megapixels. Here's how to check it and get a sharp print.

Your art file must be a JPG or PNG of at least 6 megapixels, for example, 3000 × 2000 pixels. The more pixels your file has, the sharper your pieces will be.

What we accept

  • Format: JPG or PNG.

  • Size: at least 6 megapixels (6 MP). To get the megapixels, multiply the width by the height in pixels. 3000 × 2000 = 6,000,000 pixels = 6 MP.

  • DPI doesn't matter. We count pixels, not DPI.

  • The same rule applies everywhere you add art in the portal: the + Upload new art tile in the Studio, Replace image on the ART page, and the "Request designs from our team" form.

How to check your file

  1. On a Windows computer: right-click the file, click Properties, then the Details tab. Look at Dimensions.

  2. On a Mac: open the file in Preview, then choose Tools → Show Inspector.

  3. Multiply the two numbers. If the result is 6,000,000 or more, your file is big enough.

What "too small" looks like

  • If the file is under 6 megapixels, the portal refuses it and says: "This image is … pixels: too small to print sharply. Choose one of at least 6 megapixels (for example 3000 × 2000)." Nothing is uploaded; choose a bigger file.

  • If you see "We can't open this file. Choose a JPG or PNG image.", the file is another format (a PDF, or a photo saved as HEIC on an iPhone, for example). Save or export it as JPG, then try again.

Tips for photographing your art

  • Use daylight, without flash, so there's no glare.

  • Hold the camera straight in front of the artwork, not at an angle.

  • Make sure the photo is sharp, not blurred.

  • Crop close to the edges of the artwork, with nothing around it.

  • Send the original photo to your computer. Photos sent through messaging apps or social media are often made smaller.

Good to know

  • 6 megapixels doesn't make a blurry photo sharp. Zoom in on your art in the Studio before you order. Problems that come from the art file (blurry, badly cropped) are not manufacturing defects.

  • Colours on fabric are a little softer than on a screen. See "Colour and fabric variations".

  • Found a better file later? On the ART page, use Replace image. New orders print the new file; your products keep their design.

  • The public Studio website (legaleriste.info) has its own file rule. A file it accepted can still be refused in the portal if it's under 6 megapixels.

  • Custom labels have a different size rule. See "Custom labels".
