[New] How to search by specifying details

Updated this week

This article explains the features of the new LegalOn. For information on the current version’s product features, please refer to this page.

In the Search functions, search keywords and their synonyms are displayed in the search results.

For example, if you search for "OEM," the search results will display articles that match "OEM" as well as synonyms such as "manufacturing consignment."

Additionally, when you separate multiple keywords with half-width or full-width spaces, the search results will include items containing all keywords (or their synonyms).

This article describes how to specify detailed search conditions.

⚠️ Notes

The filters "File name, Title," "Company name," and "Counterparty name" support AND searches only. These filters will display only search results that match the entered keywords exactly.

Searching for Multiple Keywords (AND Search)

Enter multiple search keywords separated by a half-width or full-width space, "and," or "AND."

Example: To search for items that contain both "warranty" and "all liabilities"

warranty all debts

warranty and all liabilities

warranty AND all debts

Search for Items Containing Any Keywords (OR Search)

Connect multiple search keywords with "or," "OR," or "|" (pipe symbol).

Example: To expand search results to include either "intentional" or "negligent"

Intent or Negligence

Intent OR Negligence

intentional | negligent

Search for Exact Phrases Only

Enclose the search keyword in double quotes (" " or ""). Results containing synonyms of keywords within the phrase will also be displayed.

Example: To narrow search results to only those containing the exact phrase "exclusive normal right of use" (rather than "exclusive right of use" or "right of use")

"exclusive normal right of use"

💡 Info

Synonyms will still be displayed for individual words within phrases. For instance, searching for "confidentiality obligation" will return results including both "confidentiality obligation" and "duty of confidentiality."

Excluding Unnecessary Keywords (NOT Search)

Enter a hyphen (-) directly before the keyword you want to exclude. The search will exclude results containing keywords following the hyphen.

Example: To exclude results containing "all liabilities" from search results for "warranty"

warranty -all liabilities

Important: Do not insert a space between the hyphen (-) and the keyword to be excluded.

Specifying the Order of Multiple Search Conditions

Use parentheses ( ) to group and prioritize search conditions.

Example: To search for results that:

  • Contain either "confidential information" or "confidential matters"

  • AND also contain "outsourcing"

  • BUT exclude results containing "public knowledge"

(Confidential Information or Confidential Matters) Business Outsourcing - Publicly Known
