This article explains how to search for matters using tabs, filters, and other features in the Matters list view.

Four ways to search for Matters

You can search matters using the following methods—each of which can be combined for more effective filtering:

  1. Free-text search

  2. Tab filtering

  3. Advanced filters

  4. Sorting by matter attributes

1. Search by free text

Use the Search button on the matter list page to enter one or more keywords. Press Enter to search.

  • You can enter multiple keywords by separating them with spaces.

  • Partial matches are supported.

Searchable fields include:

  • Matter name

  • Messages

    • Timeline (excluding system events)*

    • Mails

    • Slack threads

* Includes auto-generated “Request details” at matter creation. Manually edited request details are not searchable.

2. Filter by tab

Use the tabs above the matter list to quickly filter by assignment status:

  • [Assigned] – Matters currently being assigned

  • [All] – All matters you have access to

  • [Unassigned] – Matters with no assignee

Steps:

  1. Go to the [Matters] list

  2. Click the tab that matches your search need

🔒 Only matters in workspaces you have permission to access will appear. Contact your administrator if you believe something is missing.

3. Filter by conditions

Use filters to narrow down results further—even after applying tab filters or free-text search.

  1. Click [Filter] on the matter list page

  2. Enter your conditions (e.g., matter type, status, department, etc.)

⚠️ Notes

  • Text-based custom fields cannot be filtered.

  • Filters use AND logic—all entered conditions must be met.

  • Matter number supports partial matches.

  • For custom fields with multiple selectable options, OR logic is used.

4. Sort by Matter attributes

Click any column header to sort the list:

  • Last updated

  • Created date

  • Due date

Click again to toggle between ascending and descending order.
