Updated over 2 weeks ago

This article explains the features of the new LegalOn. For information on the current version’s product features, please refer to this page.

Converting a PDF to Word within LegalOn allows you to use powerful features such as Review, the Online Editor, and other tools that require editable text.

Requirements

File conditions

  • Page size: A4, B5, or A3

  • Scanned files: minimum 200 dpi resolution

  • File size: 10MB or less

  • The PDF must not have security restrictions:

    • No password encryption

    • No copy, print, or editing restrictions

Access Permissions

  • Administrator

  • Editor

⚠️ If your PDF has password or copy restrictions, you may need to remove them using tools like Adobe Acrobat before converting.
See: [Remove PDF Protection | Adobe Help Center]

Important Notes

  • If your PDF is a scanned image, the converted Word file may differ from the original due to OCR limitations.

  • For “Finalized” contracts: the [Convert to Word] button is disabled. To convert, download the PDF, re-upload it as a non-finalized version, and then convert it.

How to convert a PDF to Word

  1. Open the [Contracts] list in LegalOn.

  2. Click on the PDF file you want to convert.

  3. In the File detail view, click [Convert to Word] at the top right.

  4. Read the confirmation message and click [Convert].

✅ A message will confirm: “Converted to Word.”
The screen will switch to the new Word file’s detail view, which is uploaded as the latest version of the original PDF.

Best Practices

  • Do not refresh, go back, or close your browser during the conversion.

  • Converted files are added to the version history of the original PDF.
