How to Connect Slack Private Channels with LegalOn

This article explains how to connect your private Slack channels with LegalOn.

Requirements

License / Option

  • Matter Management: Pro

Note: Only IT admins can connect your LegalOn tenant with your Slack workspace. For details, see "How to integrate Slack with LegalOn."

Before you start

1. [IT Admins] Connect Slack and LegalOn

You need to set up the Slack integration before using this feature. For details, see How to integrate Slack with LegalOn. If this is already set up, continue to Step 2. Join a private Slack channel.

2. Join a private Slack channel

If you want to create threads in private channels from the matter details page in Matter Management, make sure you join those channels first.

💡Info:

You can only connect private channels that meet both of these conditions:

  • The channel belongs to the Slack workspace connected to your LegalOn tenant.

  • You are a member of the channel.

Connect your private Slack channel with LegalOn

1. Connect your personal Slack account with LegalOn

If you plan to create threads in private channels from the matter details page, follow these steps to connect your own Slack account with LegalOn:

  1. Go to User settings > Matter Management > Slack integration.

  2. Click Connect Slack.

  3. Select the Slack workspace you want to use, then click Allow.

Once connected, your registered Slack email address will appear under Connected account.

2. Add the LegalOn app to your private channel

Add the LegalOn app to each private channel you want to use. You can do this in one of two ways:

Method 1: Add from channel details

  1. Open your private channel in Slack. Click the three dots (...) in the top-right corner, then click Channel details > Open channel details.

  2. Go to the Integrations tab and click Add apps.

  3. Follow the steps in "Search and add the app" below.

Method 2: Add using the "/invite" command

  1. Type /invite in the message box of your private channel.

  2. Select Add apps to this channel from the suggestions.

3. Continue to the steps below.

Search and add the app (common to Methods 1 & 2)

  1. In the search bar on the Add apps to {channel_name} screen, type "LegalOn" and click Add next to the LegalOn app.

2. Follow the prompts to finish adding it to your channel.

Once the app is added, your connection is fully set up! For details on how to use it, see Manage matters via Slack.

⚠️Note:

After completing these steps, it can take about 10 minutes for your private channels to show up in the Matter details page. If they don't appear right away, please wait a moment and refresh your browser page.

Disconnect your Slack account from LegalOn

  1. Go to User Settings > Matter Management > Slack integration.

  2. Click Disconnect Slack.

Your Slack account is now disconnected.

💡Info:

  • Once disconnected, you won't be able to select that private channel when starting a Slack thread for a matter.

  • If you switch Slack workspaces or leave the private channel, you might need to reconnect your Slack account or add the LegalOn app again.
