There are two types of offerings on Leland:
Hourly coaching: Experts can offer hourly coaching, whether hour by hour or in a bundle (e.g., three hours, six hours, etc.)
Packages: Packages are a fantastic way for you to bundle services for a flat fee, and our recommended way of engaging with clients. Packages ultimately explain to clients how you can work with them toward a specific outcome. You can offer standardized packages or create custom packages that are specific to your areas of knowledge. To make the most of packages, make sure that they are easy to comprehend on your profile page. Additionally, we recommend having at least three packages listed for each of your category listings.
Packages are the clearest way to raise your average order value and work with fewer clients at a higher ticket.
Clients whose first purchase is a package go on to spend about 3.6x more with their coach overall than clients who start hourly. Getting there really comes down to two things: framing and options.
Packages Convert, Not Just Pay More
The AOV story is only half of it. Packages also directly improve whether a client books at all.
The biggest lever here is Recommended Offerings. After an intro call, sending a Recommended Offering quickly is one of the most effective things you can do to convert that call into a booking. But a Recommended Offering is only as good as what's behind it. If you don't have a specific package ready to send, the client is left to figure out scope and pricing on their own, and that's exactly the kind of decision paralysis that causes people to go quiet after an intro call.
A well-built set of packages means you always have something concrete to send the moment a call ends: a clear scope, a clear price, and a clear next step. That's what turns a warm intro call into a booked client, not just a bigger order once they do book.
It Starts With Framing
Our data consistently shows that clients who buy packages get better results than clients who piece together hours one at a time. Experts who open with "let's just start with an hour" make it harder on themselves to upsell later, because there's no framing in place for why a bigger engagement is the better choice.
Framing that works well: "I have a few package offerings depending on what you're looking for. Packages are the best way to get the result you're looking for, because it's a more structured engagement with specific deliverables."
That framing only works, though, if the offerings behind it are clear, custom, and specific.
Framing Only Works With Great Offerings
Top earning experts on Leland give clients a lot to choose from. We recommend 3-5 custom packages in each category.
Here's how:
1. Create custom offerings that are specific and outcome-Oriented
Leland clients are extremely outcome-driven. Every package should be oriented around a result, not just a bundle of hours. Be crystal clear about the sessions included, the deliverables, and the outcome the client walks away with. Custom, specific packages consistently outperform generic templated ones, and they're what makes the framing above actually land.
Packages also create a more structured engagement than ad hoc hourly sessions, and that structure tends to produce better client outcomes too. Outcomes sell, and a well-defined package makes those outcomes easy to see up front.
2. Have multiple price points
Great sales framing starts with great options. We recommend 3-5 custom packages per category as a baseline, and the data shows why: the median package sold is only around $790, which means entry-sized packages convert well and shouldn't be skipped in favor of only comprehensive, high-ticket options.
A few ways to build out that range:
A starter or exploration package (3-5 hours) that delivers immediate value: school selection, a target company list, a resume review, or a previous-cycle ding analysis.
Piecemeal packages. Break out every stage of the process you coach. Not everyone wants end-to-end support, but they'll pay for help exactly where they're stuck.
School- or company-specific packages. If you have a specialty, be loud about it. Use it as a hook without pigeonholing yourself into only that niche.
3. Frame like an Expert
Opening a conversation with "let's start with an hour" can lock you into hourly engagements before you've made the case for anything bigger. Try instead: "We can start with my entry package for a small number of hours and upgrade if you're seeing value."
If you do have an hourly client already, book the next session while you're still in the first one. It's much easier to keep momentum going than to restart it later.
4. Build off-season option to keep your business running YoY
Don't wait for peak season to think about packaging. Set yourself up for the in-between months with options like early-bird packages or pre-cycle support, so you have something to offer clients planning ahead of the rush.
