How can I protect myself against fraud?

You can help protect yourself from fraud by following these simple steps:

  • Regularly check your credit report and bank statements for any suspicious or unknown activity. If you spot something you don’t recognise, report it to your bank or credit card provider immediately.

  • Keep documents with personal information (like your passport, driving licence, bank statements, and utility bills) stored securely. Make sure personal details aren’t visible on documents you throw away, and shred them if possible.

  • If you move house, update your bank, credit card, and utility providers with your new address right away. You can also set up mail redirection with Royal Mail to prevent sensitive information from going to your old address.

Further information on how you can protect yourself is available on the Action Fraud website and Take Five website.
