Flipcards and reveal cards are Lessonly's version of flashcards, the time-honored learning aid that helped you ace your French exams in high school. But unlike those 3x5 notecards, our cards are interactive and content rich, supporting both text and images.
Why include flip and reveal cards in your lessons? Here are some of the benefits:
They focus attention and engage active recall, improving long-term memory
They give learners more control over their own learning pace, enhancing motivation
They visualize information, helping learners associate images with ideas
They provide immediate feedback, helping learners check their understanding
Flipcards and reveal cards are functionally similar, differing only in the way they reveal their hidden contents.
Adding Flip and Reveal Cards to Your Lessons
First, navigate to the lesson builder, then select Add Element. Select the element you wish to design from the menu, Flipcard or Reveal.
Do these elements look familiar? That's because they basically fuse text elements with image elements.
In the first text box, enter the content you want to display on the front of the card. You can style your text in all of the usual ways. You can also add secondary, subordinate text to the front of your card. This is a great way to give learners hints, prompts, or encouragement.
Optionally, add an image to the front of your card. You can upload a new, independent image or select one from the image library.
In the second text box, add the content you want to display on the back of the card, i.e., the content learners will see when they select flip or reveal. Here, too, you can add an image; but remember, less is often more. Help learners create a strong association between concepts and images by using the latter sparingly.
Also, note that images on flip and reveal cards cannot be repositioned. They will always display above the card's text.
π‘ Tip: Prevent your images from being squashed and stretched by resizing them before adding them to Lessonly. This in-browser resizing tool is free and easy to use.
And that's all there is to it! Congrats on making your training content more memorable and engaging. π
