Understanding Manuscript Performance from a Publisher Perspective, Libraro provides a structured view of how a manuscript performs across three key stages: discoverability, engagement, and commercial intent. These metrics allow us to assess not only whether a manuscript is being seen, but whether it is resonating with readers and demonstrating genuine market potential.

Discovery & Readership
Discoverability and readership reflect the scale and relevance of a manuscript’s audience reach. These metrics are included to show how active the platform is, how widely a manuscript is being surfaced, and whether it is reaching the right audience based on reader preferences.
Category distribution is also a key component. By understanding where the majority of reader interest sits across genres, publishers can assess whether a manuscript is aligned with high-demand areas or more niche segments. This helps contextualise performance and identify opportunities for increased visibility.
Reader Engagement
Reader engagement provides insight into how readers interact with a manuscript once it has been discovered. These metrics are designed to capture both surface-level and deeper forms of interaction.
Actions such as liking represent immediate positive feedback, while comments indicate a higher level of engagement where readers are willing to share thoughts and reactions. Saves suggest ongoing interest, even if the reader has not completed the manuscript in one sitting, and follows demonstrate longer-term interest in the author’s work.
Together, these metrics are used to understand how effectively a manuscript connects with its audience, as well as the strength of reader retention and community building around the work.
Reader Purchase Intent
Reader purchase intent captures signals that indicate whether engagement is translating into potential commercial value. These metrics are included to bridge the gap between reader interaction and market demand.
Early access interest reflects anticipation for unpublished work and indicates whether readers are motivated to continue engaging beyond the platform. External click actions demonstrate a willingness to take the next step, such as accessing or purchasing the work elsewhere.
From a publisher’s perspective, these indicators are particularly important as they provide early signals of demand and perceived value prior to formal publication.
Overall Performance Insights and Key Notes
Taken together, these metrics present a clear performance journey.
Discoverability shows whether a manuscript is reaching an audience. Engagement demonstrates whether it is holding attention and generating meaningful interaction. Purchase intent indicates whether that interaction is translating into potential commercial success.
These metrics have been chosen to reflect the full reader journey, from initial exposure through to deeper interest and potential conversion. This allows publishers to assess not just popularity, but quality of engagement and likelihood of market performance.
For publishers, Libraro provides a data-backed foundation to support acquisition decisions, reduce risk, and identify emerging works with demonstrated reader interest.
For authors, these insights can also be used when engaging with external stakeholders, such as publishers or agents, to evidence demand and differentiate their work through measurable audience behaviour.
