Pet parents want the best for their companion animals. When it comes to sourcing our products, including chicken meal, we have to balance quality, nutritional content and costs.
There is no question that raising chickens naturally instead of keeping them in enclosed, crowded environments is more favorable. However, as per the nutritional benefit of a free-range chicken versus a typically farmed one, the farmed chicken will generally be more nutritious. It is difficult to find free-range chicken farms that are able to sell tons of chickens at a time. If we were to only use free-range chickens, we would only be able to purchase the leftover parts after prime selections were sold for human consumption.
Thus, the consequence of changing to free-range would be a more costly product with a poorer nutritional content, which doesn't help you or your pet.
We do hope that someday soon, there will be enough pressure exerted on farming industry to convince them to change conventional husbandry practices.
