Purines are natural chemical compounds found in a variety of vegetables, meats and fish. They are known for serving as the building blocks for DNA, and once metabolized, turn into uric acid. They are found in high concentrations in the livers and kidneys of mammals, fish, poultry, even in grains and legumes.ย

Life's Abundance Canned and Dry Dog Foods do contain purines as naturally occurring components of some of our ingredients. On the whole, there is nothing wrong with purines if your dog can metabolize them normally. However, some dog breeds, such as Dalmatians, need to limit purines in their diets.
