We purchased Flint River Ranch assets back in June of 2017 and set out to make two similar, nutritionally superior baked dog foods (All Life Stage and Adult Lamb & Millet). Together, with our executive staff and pet food formulators, we developed a strategy to accomplish this. In September 2017, we made the first batch of each baked food with the agreement that if it did not meet our specifications, we would go back to the drawing board and try again.

Unfortunately, in addition to hearing that the first batch did not meet our specifications, we also learned that the baking process could not give us the superior cook we get with our current traditional pet foods. This was very disappointing as an inferior cook can result in digestion problems. We also learned it would be even more costly than we initially thought to bring these foods up to higher standards and this would have to be reflected in the selling price. Back then, in 2017, the price of a 40 lb. bag of Life’s Abundance All Life Stage Dog Food was around $70, the same size bag of baked food would have cost about $150 to reach our nutritional standards.

We learned a tremendous amount during this process and while we could probably find a segment of pet lovers who would be willing to spend more money to feed a baked food that’s not who we are at Life’s Abundance. Providing high quality products is more important to us than achieving higher sales. Therefore, we decided not to move forward with the production of baked pet foods.

Although this may be disappointing to some, we are now more convinced than ever that our pet foods are nutritionally superior over baked food.
