Lingo distinguishes between two types of users for billing purposes: editors and consumers.

Editors

Editors are users who can create and modify content. They are counted toward the number of editor seats in your plan.

These roles are always editors:

  • Owner - Full Space control including billing

  • Admin - Full Space control except billing

  • Content Manager - Can create/edit Kits, Portals, and manage the Library

Members become editors when:

  • They're granted edit access to one or more Kits

Consumers

Consumers are all users who can view and download content but cannot edit. They count toward your monthly consumer quota.

These are always consumers:

  • Members without Kit edit access - Can only view content in Portals they're added to

  • Public guests - Anyone accessing public Kits or Portals via shared links

Why this matters

  • You always pay for each editor seat occupied in your billing cycle.

  • Your plan includes a consumer quota

  • If you need to increase your consumer quota, the cost is significantly lower than adding more editors.

Example

A team on the business plan might have:

  • 3 Content Managers (editors) managing the brand assets

  • 50 Members across the company (consumers) who download assets

This team only pays for 3 editors, the 50 members (consumers) are included in their plan.
