Direct links let you embed Lingo Assets directly in websites, applications, emails, and more. Here's how to create and manage them.
Note: Only admins and content managers can create and access direct links.
Creating a direct link
Select an asset in a kit or the Library
If not already open, open the inspector (Action menu > View details)
Find the Direct Link section
Click Create Link
The first link created for each asset is named "Default". Creating additional links will prompt you to name them.
Naming direct links
Direct links can be named to help differentiate them, this can be powerful when it comes time to dive into Direct Link insights.
For example, let's say you are distributing an informational PDF brochure, you might create separate links for "Website Resources", "Email Campaign", or "Mobile App". In insights you will be able to see how many times the brochure was downloaded from the web, email, and app.
You can learn more about direct link insights in the Direct Link Usage Tracking guide.
Deleting a direct link
To delete a direct link:
Open the Asset inspector
Scroll to the Direct Link section
Open the menu for the link
Select Delete Link
Warning: Deleting a link cannot be undone and will immediately and permanently break access to that specific URL. Make sure the link isn't actively being used before deleting.
Direct link considerations
Updating Assets When you replace the file for an Asset in Lingo:
Existing direct links continue to work
They automatically serve the updated version
No need to regenerate or update links
Deleting an asset When you delete an Asset from Lingo:
All direct links to that Asset immediately stop working
Links cannot be restored by recovering the Asset
Performance Direct links are served through Lingo's CDN, providing:
Fast load times worldwide
Automatic caching for better performance
High availability and reliability
File support Most assets with a file support Direct Links.
Usage quotas To learn more about direct link usage and pricing, see Understanding Direct Link Usage Limits.
Troubleshooting
I don't see the Direct Link section
Ensure you have admin or content manager permissions
Direct link not working Check if:
The Asset still exists in your Library
The URL was copied completely (no truncation)
Link shows wrong version
Clear your browser cache
The CDN may be caching the previous version temporarily
