Testing Experiences with the Listrak Workbench Extension

The Listrak Workbench Extension is a Chrome browser extension that contains an Experience Tester and Customer State Simulator enabling you to conveniently test your experience configuration before launching a new popup or inline content experience. You can test the creative rendering of an experience on your site or test the targeting criteria to ensure it is showing (or hiding) when contacts meet a set of rules.

⚠️ The Workbench Extension will not display popups labeled as Custom Popups or popups built using Listrak's Popup Pro feature.

There are two layers of testing enabled with the Listrak Workbench Extension.

1️⃣ The first layer of testing allows you to evaluate if an element will show on a specific page because it meets the criteria or to display on any page to evaluate the appearance of the experience.

2️⃣ The second layer of testing allows you to mimic users who land on your site. For example, view the experience for contacts who are opted in to email but not SMS or contacts who have interacted with another experience.

Enabling Test Mode in the Extension

⚠️ In order to test an experience with the extension it must be currently live on your site or be placed in test mode with Listrak.

  1. Open your site and the Listrak Workbench extension.

  2. In the Test tab, click the Enable Config Testing button in the Experience Debugger section.

  3. Any enabled experiences will display under the button using the sort order configured in the settings menu. Each experience is represented by a card, which will contain the following (* indicates properties that only display for Inline Content):

    1. Experience Name: This will display the name assigned to the experience in Listrak.

    2. Status Icon: Easily differentiate between live and test experiences

    3. Type: Identifies the type of experience (e.g. popup, inline content).

    4. Trigger: Displays the trigger type for the configured experience (e.g. on page load, exit intent).

    5. UID: The identifier for the selected popup which can be copied when clicked.

    6. Selector*: Identifies the site element that is tied to the inline element.

    7. Position*: Determines how the element appears in the selected element (e.g. replaces the element or appears inside the element).

    8. Priority*: Identifies the priority of a specific piece of content if a visitor is eligible for multiple experiences.

    9. Arrow: Open the experience within the Listrak platform for easy adjustments.

Viewing Live Experiences

  1. An Active badge indicates experiences that are currently in an active state in the Listrak Platform.

  2. The eye icon prior to the name of the experience indicates if the experience is viewable on the current page based on the current targeting rules.

  3. To verify the configuration of a popup, you can navigate to a specific page and open the Targeting Rules section of the experience card.

    1. The section will display the show/hide rules for the specific popup.

    2. A green checkmark will appear if the current page matches (passes) the rule criteria.

    3. A red X will appear if the current page does not match (fails) the rule criteria.

    4. Learn more about the specific criteria evaluated by the targeting section.

  4. Clicking the Show button will display the popup regardless of if your current session or device meets the criteria (e.g. a mobile only popup will display on desktop).

Viewing Test Experiences

  1. A Test badge indicates that an experience has been placed in test mode in the Listrak platform. You will have 3 different test types: page rules, appearance walk through, and user criteria.

  2. The eye icon provides a quick way to test page rules to determine if a popup will appear on a page.

    1. The icon will have a strike-through to indicate the page rules are not met.

    2. The eye icon without a strike-through indicates the page rules are met.

💡 Navigate across multiple pages on your site to verify multiple URL properties.

    3. Open the Targeting Rules card to see the specific page rules applied to the popup. A green checkmark indicates the popup passes (meets) the rule and the red X indicates the popup fails (does not meet) the rule.

  3. You can also view the full experience flow of the test popup by opening the Experience Flow card.

    1. You will see all step types including splits and coupons.

    2. Click the information icon to see additional details about the popup step.

💡 If you are configuring multiple popups you can use this information to check the properties without navigating through the Listrak platform.

  4. You can also conduct a test for the appearance and flow of a popup by clicking the Show button.

    1. Open the Experience Flow card.

    2. Each popup step configured in the experience will appear on the card.

      1. Click Next to follow the full path of the popup configuration.

      2. Click on an individual step to view the creative.

      3. Click Reset to start the flow again.

      4. Click on the information icon to see additional step details (e.g. conditional split criteria).

  5. You can use the configuration testing and customer state simulator to test additional settings based on a contact's interactions with the site, for example previously subscribing to a specific channel, without having to take these actions directly on the site.

    1. To set up a configuration test:

      1. Click the Enable Config Test button.

      2. Open the Customer State Simulator card on the extension.

      3. Add the specific targeting parameters that meet your goal. For example, check the email subscriber checkbox to test a conditional split based on what channels a contact is currently opted-in to.

      4. Click Apply State to launch the test.

      5. The targeting rules section in the extension will update to reflect the new data and if a contact passes (meets) or fails (does not meet) the rule.

      6. Click Clean Test to clear the configuration data and apply different criteria.

      7. To end a test, click Disable Config Testing.

Creating and Exporting Test Profiles

When displaying multiple experiences on the site or incorporate conditional splits, site visitors can have many different viewing experiences on the site. Listrak Workbench allows you to create a test profile that can be shared across team members to easily replicate the same experience and gather feedback.

  1. Add the criteria of the new test profile to the Customer State Simulator.

  2. In the Test Profiles card, click Save New Profile.

  3. Enter a name of the new profile.

  4. The new profile will be listed in the test profile section to easily copy or delete.

  5. To send the profile to another user, click Export. The export will generate a JSON file that contains all test profiles.

  6. The new user can load these profiles into their extension by clicking Import and selecting the JSON file. The profiles will now be listed in their test profile section.

Criteria Glossary & Targeting Examples

Targeting Test Criteria

  • Session Depth: Records the number of pages a contact has visited and evaluates if the value is equal to or greater than the configured value.

  • Show After Days: A cookie is set in the browser when a user dismisses an experience; the extension evaluates if the number of days that has passed is equal to or grater than the configured value.

  • Show Rules: Evaluates if an experience, which is intended to display, will do so based on the targeting category (e.g. on a specific page URL).

  • Hide Rules: Evaluates if the experience, which is intended to be hidden, will do so based on the targeting category.

Targeting Categories

The following criteria can be adjusted to test the configuration of an experience.

  • Email Address (Identity): Input a single address that would indicate a contact's email is already recognized by the popup.

  • Subscribed Channels: Check one more of the check boxes to indicate a contact is opted-in to the selected channel(s). Use this setting to test configuration that may differ based if a contact is currently opted-in to the channel.

  • Listrak Message Source: Select one of the options from the drop-down (None, Email, SMS) to indicate if a contact would be visiting the site after clicking through a message sent from a given channel in the Listrak platform.

  • Session Depth: Input a numerical value to indicate how many pages the contact has visited during the session. Use this setting to test experiences that do not appear on initial site visit.

  • Active Coupon Codes: Input one or multiple coupon codes in the text field (separate multiple codes with a comma) that indicate any coupons that would be assigned to a contact during their session on the site.

  • Cart Items: Input one or multiple product SKUs (separate multiple SKUs with a comma) to indicate what items a contact has in their cart. Use this setting to test experiences that are triggered based on the items in a contact's cart.

Testing Examples

On the top you will see in-app targeting configurations and on the bottom is the extension settings you can use to confirm the targeting is functioning correctly.

Goal: Hide the popup from existing subscribers

In-app, you can set the popup conditions to hide if someone arrives on the site because they clicked through a Listrak message and select one of the channels in the message source drop-down in the extension. You can also set the subscribed channel check boxes in the extension to correspond to the subscribed channel hide filter in-app.
