How to Install and Customize QuickSMS Phone Capture Extension for Shopify Plus Checkout

This guide walks you through the process of installing, customizing, and optimizing the extension for your Shopify Plus store.

This feature is only available for Shopify Plus stores. If you do not have a Shopify Plus store, please follow our guide here for optimal phone number field configuration.

The QuickSMS Phone Capture extension, developed by LiveRecover, is designed to streamline the phone number collection process during checkout, eliminating the need for customers to scroll, improving your phone number opt-in rate and engagement with LiveRecover.


Step 1: Adjust Checkout Settings

Before installing the QuickSMS Phone Capture extension, you'll need to adjust some settings in your Shopify admin to ensure smooth integration.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Checkout in your Shopify admin.

  2. Under the Customer contact method section:

    • Select 'Email' as the primary contact method.

    • Scroll down to Customer information (Optional):

      Select “Don’t include” under Shipping address phone number. The QuickSMS extension will automatically inject the phone number field, so there's no need to collect it twice. However, if you need it for gift notes, you can keep it as “Optional”.

    • Deselect SMS Marketing:

      • Under the Marketing options section, deselect SMS.

        • There will be an option to include a marketing consent checkbox within the new phone field.


Step 2: Add the QuickSMS Phone Capture Block

  1. Under the same checkout settings, go to the Configurations section

  2. Click Customize next to your live checkout.

  3. Once in the editor for your live checkout, click on Add App Block.

  4. Under App blocks available for this page, find QuickSMS Phone Capture from LiveRecover and select it.


Step 3: Customize the Phone Number Field

  1. After adding the QuickSMS Phone Capture block, you can customize the field’s label and insert your Terms and Conditions URL.


2. By default, the label will read "Enter your phone # for order updates and live agent assistance," but you can change it to suit your brand’s voice. Example: "Stay updated with order alerts via SMS."

3. Important: For the Phone Field Disclaimer, TCPA compliance requires that we link to the SMS terms and conditions when collecting phone number so ensure that you insert your T&C here:

4. Similarly, the consent checkbox for SMS opt-ins will appear when you select "True" under Enable Consent Checkbox. While this is not required for LiveRecover, you can enable it if you're also using SMS marketing.

You can also customize the language by typing your desired text into the Consent Checkbox Label field:



Step 4: Save and Finalize

  1. Once the block and customization are set, review your changes to ensure you’ve linked the Terms & Conditions and edited any necessary fields based on your preference. This will reduce checkout completion time and improve customer experience.

  2. Click Save in the upper-right corner to finalize your changes.

Final Testing Checklist:

  • Ensure the QuickSMS Phone Capture field appears in your checkout.

  • Check the Terms and Conditions link to confirm it’s working as expected.

  • Once everything is confirmed, you’re all set!
