LMN x Stripe Capital

Written by Kaitlin Lane

Overview

Growth almost always costs something before it pays off, whether that’s another truck, another crew, or another season of advertising. LMN has partnered with Stripe to offer eligible businesses access to fast, flexible financing through the Stripe Capital program.

How Stripe Capital works

Eligibility is based on a combination of factors, including your payment volume and history on LMN Pay Powered by Stripe. Processing payments through LMN Pay Powered by Stripe is how you can begin the eligibility process. Stripe Capital is being offered to US and Canadian customers.

2. Review and accept your offer

If you're eligible, Stripe will email you directly with your prequalified offer, so keep an eye on your inbox and check your spam folder if you don't see it. You'll choose your amount and review your terms before applying.

3. Receive funds fast

All financing applications are subject to review prior to approval. If you're approved, funds are deposited into your bank account typically in 2 business days.

4. Stripe Capital payments

You pay your financing through a portion of your daily sales at a fixed payment rate, so you’ll pay more when business is strong and less when sales are slower.* The amount is automatically deducted from your payouts using LMN Pay Powered by Stripe. In Canada, once you’ve met your minimum payment for the 30-day period, withholding stops until the next period begins.

*Stripe Capital loans have a minimum amount due each payment period. If the amount that you pay through sales doesn’t meet the minimum required, your bank account will be automatically debited the remaining amount at the end of the period. If your financing has a fixed payment, Stripe stops withholding from your sales when you meet the fixed payment amount.

5. Manage your financing

Once your financing is paid out, Stripe emails you a weekly progress update with a link to your Stripe-hosted financing page. There you can see your financing amount, outstanding balance, and payment activity, download your financing agreement, and make additional payments. There are no additional fees for early payment.

You'll also see a Financing line item on the LMN payout report you already use, so it's easy to track payments alongside your deposits.

How does payment work?

In the US, payment is collected automatically through a percentage of your LMN Pay Powered by Stripe sales as they're processed which means you pay down more when business is busy and less if things slow down. As long as you meet your minimum payment requirement, what you pay each day adjusts to your sales. In Canada, once you’ve met your minimum payment for the 30-day period, withholding stops until the next period begins.

What's a minimum payment?

For loans, a minimum payment is the minimum amount that you're expected to pay every payment period. That period will be determined during underwriting and based on the total term of your loan offer. If your automatic payments don't meet this minimum, you'll be required to pay the remaining amount at the end of the period. You can view your minimum payment amount in the Dashboard or in your loan agreement.

How do I make my minimum payment?

If your payments deducted from sales cover the minimum payment requirement for payment period, no action will be taken. There's no action needed on your part.

Can I pay my financing early?

Yes, you can make additional payments or pay the total amount financed in full at any point by clicking the 'Make Payment' button from your Stripe-hosted financing page. There are no additional fees for early payment.

Why do my payments stop partway through the month? (Canada)

In Canada, each 30-day payment period has a minimum payment. Once the amount withheld from your sales meets that minimum, withholding stops until the next period begins. You can make additional payments at any point from your Stripe-hosted financing page, at no extra cost.

Will paying early qualify me for a new offer?

After you pay the total amount financed, we'll automatically evaluate you for a new offer. Paying early doesn't automatically qualify you for a new offer.

How should I report these funds on my taxes?

Tax reporting is often dependent on your specific situation, so we encourage you to talk with a tax advisor to ensure appropriate accounting. In general, Stripe Capital funds wouldn't be considered taxable income at the time of receipt, and the amounts withheld to satisfy your obligations aren't tax deductible.
