AskLMN

An overview of our new beta feature AskLMN, an AI chat experience that allows you to dig deeper into your data and learn about your business.

Written by Katherine Scott

Get answers about your business just by asking. AskLMN lets you ask questions about your LMN data in plain English and get an answer back in seconds, with charts and tables where they help. No report building required.

Note: AskLMN is in closed beta right now, meaning only a few select accounts have access to test the feature. Interested in joining our test group? Contact your account manager or LMN Support.

Before you start

  • AskLMN is only available on our Professional plan or above - it's not currently available on Starter plans

  • Each person who will use it needs the AskLMN permission turned on. Owners and Security Admins have it on by default.

  • Anyone with the AskLMN permission can ask about any data in your account, including revenue, invoices, profitability and budgets. Only turn it on for people you're comfortable seeing that.

Turn on AskLMN for a team member

  1. Go to Settings > Staff and open the team member.

  2. Select the Permissions tab.

  3. Find AskLMN and set it to Full Access. Choose No Access to turn it off.

  4. Save. Ask them to refresh their browser, and AskLMN will appear in their Analytics menu.

How to use AskLMN

Where to find it

  1. In the left menu, go to Analytics > AskLMN.

  2. Look for the Beta 2.0 tag at the top of the page. That means you're in the right place.

Ask a question

  1. Type a question, or pick one of the suggested questions.

  2. Read the answer as it appears. Use Stop if you want to cancel, or Retry if something goes wrong.

  3. Ask a follow-up to dig deeper.

  4. Tap 👍 or 👎 on the answer to tell us how we did. The more feedback you provide, the better the answers get!

Tips for better answers:

  • Be specific about what you mean and the time period. "Invoiced revenue last quarter" works better than "revenue last quarter."

  • If AskLMN asks you a question back, answer it. It's making sure it gives you the right number.

Questions to try:

  • “How many new leads did we get this year compared to last year?”

  • "How many estimates did we send out last quarter, and how many turned into jobs?"

  • “What’s my close rate on estimates by salesperson this year?”

  • “Which lead sources brought in the most booked work?”

  • “How many open estimates haven’t been followed up on in 30 days?"

  • “Which jobs came in over budget this year, and by how much?”

  • "Which of my top 10 customers by revenue this year are also slow to pay? Put their revenue next to how long their invoices usually sit open."

  • "Which services or cost codes earn the best margin, and are we selling more or less of them this year than last?"

What data can you ask about?

AskLMN answers from your LMN data in six areas:

  • CRM & customers

  • Estimates & sales

  • Jobs & job costing

  • Crew & labor

  • Invoicing & AR

  • Payments

Not available yet: your upcoming schedule (for example, which crews are booked next week), payroll, budgets, and anything outside LMN, such as QuickBooks.

You can click 'View available data' to see a list of the latest available data, as well as sample questions for each topic. Simply click on the question to test it out.

Find your past conversations

  • AskLMN saves your conversations. Press ‘View all’ next to your recent conversations, or open the history panel at the top right to see them, then select one to reopen it and keep going.

  • From the history panel, you can also:

    • Rename a conversation so it's easy to find.

    • Pin conversations you come back to often so they stay at the top.

    • Archive conversations you're done with to tidy the list. Select the archive icon in the top right of the history panel to see archived conversations and restore them.

  • Your conversations are private to you. Teammates can't see them.

Frequently asked questions

Who can use AskLMN right now?

Invited closed beta accounts, and the user needs the AskLMN permission. Contact support if you'd like to join the beta!

I'm in the beta but I can't see AskLMN. What do I check?

First, confirm which account you're logging into, since beta access is set per account. Then check that you have AskLMN set to Full Access under Settings > Staff > Permissions. A user who has AskLMN on but no access to Analytics Dashboards access may not see the Analytics menu at all - if that's the case, or if everything else looks right, contact support!

Can we limit what a team member can ask about?

Not yet. The permission is on or off per user, and anyone with it can ask about any data in the account. Owners and Security Admins have it on by default. You should turn it on only for people who you are comfortable seeing everything. Finer-grained permissions, such as an Estimator or Accountant view, are being explored.

If my company has multiple locations, can I use it to ask questions across all my accounts?

Not yet. AskLMN works for single-location accounts only and answers questions about the account you're currently logged into. Corporate users keep their GoodData and Analytics dashboards. We're still working out how permissions should work for multi-location accounts.

How is this different from AI Data Insights?

It's the same feature with a new name and a rebuilt engine. Beta 2.0 answers more open-ended questions, gives more context, suggests next steps, and streams answers as they're written.

Can I see which invoices or records are behind a number?

Kind of. Today, the CSV export gives you an export of exactly what you see on the screen. However, if you have questions about which jobs, estimates, etc. are behind a number, ask AskLMN to provide you with the list.

Is it available in the Crew mobile app?

Not yet. Bringing AskLMN to Crew is in progress. Today it's on the web only.

Where do I send feedback or answers that look wrong?

Please use the 👍 / 👎 buttons on any answer to help provide information about what you find useful and what is confusing. You can also share feedback with support at any time!
