Once your website is ready and you’re happy with how everything looks, you can connect your custom domain and publish it live.
Step 1: Publish Your Website
Go to your LocalEngine dashboard.
Click Publish.
If you already own a domain, select “I have a domain.”
Enter your domain without
https://orwww— just the domain name.
Example:
localengine.com
After entering your domain, LocalEngine will automatically generate new nameservers for you.
Step 2: Update Your Nameservers
You’ll now need to log into your domain provider and update your DNS settings.
If your domain is hosted with providers such as:
GoDaddy
Squarespace
Hover
You’re good to go!
What to do:
Log into your domain provider account.
Find the DNS or Nameserver settings section.
Remove the existing nameservers.
Add the new nameservers generated by LocalEngine.
Save your changes.
That’s it! Your domain will start pointing to your LocalEngine website.
Important: Domains Registered with Wix
If your domain is registered through Wix, nameservers cannot be changed.
In this case, the domain must be transferred to another registrar before it can be connected to LocalEngine.
We recommend transferring your domain to:
GoDaddy
Squarespace
Hover
The domain transfer process typically takes about 7 days.
How to Transfer Your Domain from Wix
Step 1: Unlock Your Domain in Wix
Follow Wix’s official guide to unlock your domain and generate a transfer authorization code:
This will:
Unlock your domain
Generate an authorization (EPP) code
Step 2: Create an Account with a New Registrar
Create an account with your chosen provider (for example, GoDaddy).
Step 3: Start the Transfer Process
Go to the GoDaddy domain transfer page:
Enter your domain name.
Follow the transfer steps.
Enter the authorization code generated by Wix.
Complete the purchase (typically $20–$30/year).
After completing the purchase:
Check your domain dashboard to confirm the transfer is in progress.
Wait approximately 7 days for the transfer to complete.
Step 4: Connect the Domain to LocalEngine
Once the transfer is complete:
Go back to LocalEngine.
Click Publish.
Select “I have a domain.”
Enter your domain name (without https://).
Update the nameservers in your new registrar account using the LocalEngine-generated nameservers.
Important Notes
If your website is built on Wix but your domain is registered with another provider (for example, Squarespace), that’s completely fine.
What matters is where the domain is registered, not where the old website was built.
As long as your domain provider allows nameserver updates, you can connect it directly without transferring.
