Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your accounts by requiring a dynamically generated code in addition to a password. Lockwell lets you add your 2FA codes directly to your accounts in the password vault, so your 2FA code is right there with your password whenever you need to login.

Ready to ramp up your security with two-factor authentication (2FA) using the Vault? It's easy-peasy, and we're here to guide you every step of the way!

Protect Accounts With 2FA in the Lockwell Mobile App

  1. Login to the account you want to protect and enable 2FA (usually in your profile or account settings).

  2. Most sites that support 2FA offer a QR code you can scan to add 2FA to your account. Open the 2FA QR code on your screen.

    (See Slack Example below)

  1. Open the Lockwell mobile app.

  2. Click the menu icon.

  3. Click Vault to access your accounts.

  4. Click on the account to + Add 2FA.

  5. Click + Add 2FA to access your camera.

  6. Your camera will open, point it at the QR code to scan it

Please note that if you have not added the account to your vault prior to adding 2FA you will need to fill out the following fields:

  1. Name of the Account i.e. Slack

  2. Login

  3. Password

  4. Website i.e. https://slack.com

Your 2FA code is added to the account.

IMPORTANT: Most sites require you to enter your 2FA code into the site to complete 2FA setup.

Protect Accounts With 2FA in the Lockwell Desktop App

  1. Login to the account you want to protect and enable 2FA (usually in your settings).

  2. Open the desktop app and click on Passwords to access your password vault.

  3. Enter your master password to unlock the vault.

  4. In the vault, open the account you want to protect with 2FA and click Edit

  5. If Lockwell knows how to setup 2FA on your account's site, you'll see this callout with a link to the 2FA setup instructions.

  6. Most sites that support 2FA offer a QR code you can scan to add 2FA to your account. Open the 2FA QR code on your screen.

  7. Click the Add 2FA button to add the One-time Password field to your account in the password vault.

  8. Click the QR code button on the right of the One-time password field to scan the QR code and add 2FA to your account directly in the password vault.

    1. IMPORTANT: You must have the desktop app AND QR code on the same monitor for the scan to work. The QR code must also not be covered by the desktop app.

    2. If the 2FA code was added successfully, you'll see a success message & the One-time password field will be populated with your 2FA otpauth:// link.

    3. If there isn't a QR code available to scan and your site provides it, you can enter your 2FA otpauth:// link directly into the One-time password field to add 2FA instead of scanning the QR code.

  9. Click Save to save the 2FA code to your record.

    1. You'll now see a 2FA code that resets every 30 seconds.

  10. IMPORTANT: Most sites require you to enter your 2FA code into the site to complete 2FA setup.
