Note: This article describes how projects work in Lokalise Vantage. Projects are also available in Lokalise Expert, but the interface, settings, and workflow differ. If you are using Lokalise Expert, see Projects.
This guide explains how to create and manage projects in Lokalise Vantage.
In Vantage, projects are used to organize marketing and creative content such as documents, presentations, articles, campaigns, and other content you want to translate into multiple languages. Content can be added by uploading files or importing it through supported integrations.
Before you start
To create a project in Vantage, you must have at least the team admin role. If you do not see the New project button, check your permissions or contact a team admin.
You can create as many Vantage projects as needed. The number of projects in a team is not limited.
Some usage is still governed by your team subscription, including quotas such as:
processed words
AI translation usage
advanced seats
Vantage projects dashboard
Lokalise Vantage is a workspace within the same Lokalise team as Lokalise Expert. A team can contain both Expert and Vantage projects, and the same team users can work across both workspaces depending on their project access.
To work with Vantage projects, click the Lokalise logo in the top-left corner and select Lokalise Vantage. This opens the Vantage project dashboard and interface.
To return to Lokalise Expert, use the same workspace switcher and select Lokalise Expert.
From the Vantage dashboard, you can view all Vantage projects and navigate to other Vantage features, such as Translation assets and Requested content.
Some features, such as team quotas, are shared at the team level across both Expert and Vantage.
Create a new Vantage project
TL;DR
Create a project from the Vantage dashboard
Set a name, base language, and target languages
Add content (upload files or use an integration)
Choose a workflow (AI only or AI + human review)
Vantage automatically translates and starts the workflow
Review and approve translations in the editor
Download or update content as needed
To create a project:
Open the Projects dashboard for Lokalise Vantage.
Click New project.
You will then be asked to configure the project.
You will then be guided through a short setup flow to configure your project. This step-by-step process helps you define everything upfront, so once the project is created, translation runs automatically and you only need to review, troubleshoot, or upload updated content when needed.
Step 1: Choose content source
First, you'll need to decide how the content will be uploaded to the project:
Upload files manually — choose one or more files from your PC
Import from integrations
Once you're ready, click Continue.
Step 2: Enter the project details
Provide the following information:
Project name
Base language — the language your source content is written in
Target languages — the languages you want to translate into (you can add more target languages later if needed)
The base language cannot be changed after the project is created. If you need a different base language, create a new project.
Step 3: Upload files to the project
After entering the project details, upload the file you want to translate. If you've chosen one of the integrations, you'll need to connect to the corresponding service instead.
Vantage supports marketing and creative, file-based content such as:
DOCX
PPTX
HTML
Markdown (MD)
XLSX
IDML
Please note that the file size cannot exceed 50 MB.
Typical examples include:
documentation
blog posts
slide decks
marketing content
email templates
Once uploaded, Vantage reads the file, breaks the content into segments, and prepares it for translation.
Step 4: Add translation assets
During project creation, you can configure the translation memory and glossary that Vantage will use for translation.
You can skip this step and start translating without adding additional assets. However, changes to translation assets or TM settings are not applied retroactively to translations that have already been generated. Learn more in the Translation assets guide.
Configure translation memory
The Vantage Primary Translation Memory is added to every new Vantage project automatically. It is used for both Read and save, which means Vantage:
searches it for translation memory matches and suggestions
saves approved translations from the project to it
The Vantage Primary Translation Memory cannot be removed from the project.
To use additional translation memories, click Add translation memory and select from the TMs available to your team. Additional translation memories are currently Read only. Vantage can use them for matches and suggestions, but new translations are not saved to them.
If you add multiple TMs, drag and drop them to change their priority. Higher-priority TMs are checked first when Vantage looks for translation memory matches.
You can change the same TM configuration later in the project settings by adding or removing read-only TMs or changing their priority.
Add glossary terms
The shared Vantage glossary is also available during project creation.
You can add terms in two ways:
click Add new term to add terms manually
click Upload CSV to import multiple glossary terms from a CSV file
To add a term manually, click Add new term and configure:
Term — the term to add
Non-translatable — keeps the term unchanged in all languages
Case sensitive — respects capitalization; useful for terms such as acronyms
Add another — keeps the dialog open so you can add more terms
Once added or imported, glossary terms become part of the shared Vantage glossary and are used for future translations across Vantage projects.
Step 5: Choose a workflow
Next, choose how the project should be processed. Vantage offers two workflow options:
Instant AI
This is the fastest option. With Instant AI, Vantage uses Pro AI to translate the content without creating human review tasks automatically.
This option works well when speed is the main priority.
AI + human review
With AI + human review, Pro AI translates the content first. Vantage then evaluates translation quality and sends content for human review based on the configured review scope.
This option is useful when you want an additional review step before publishing.
When you select this workflow, you will need to configure the review process.
Step 6: Choose the review scope
If you select AI + human review, the next step is to choose the review scope. The review scope determines how much content is sent for human review. In practice, this controls how strict the review threshold is.
A broader scope sends more content to reviewers. A narrower scope sends only the segments that are more likely to contain clear issues.
You will also assign default reviewers per target language. These reviewers will automatically receive review tasks when the project is created.
Available options:
None of the review options include 100% TM matches.
Full review — all translations are reviewed
Extensive review — most translations are reviewed
Focused review — reviewers see segments more likely to need attention
Essential review — only segments with more serious issues are sent for review
This allows you to balance speed, cost, and level of human oversight.
Set review task deadlines
When human review is enabled, you can also set the project timezone and default review deadline during project setup.
The default review deadline defines how many calendar days reviewers get to complete a task. You can choose from 1 to 90 days, with 5 days selected by default. Each review task is assigned a due date automatically based on this setting.
Deadlines are calculated as end-of-day in the project timezone, so the due date is clear for reviewers in different locations.
You can override the due date for an individual task when editing task details.
Assign reviewers
If human review is enabled, you must also assign reviewers. Reviewers are selected per language, so you can assign different reviewers for different target languages.
Assigned reviewers receive an email notification with a direct link to the project, so they can quickly open the editor and start reviewing their segments.
When setting up the project, you can choose reviewers from any existing members of your team. After the project is created, all assigned reviewers automatically appear as project contributors, and you can manage their access later from the Contributors page.
Step 7: Start AI translation
Once the project is configured, click Start AI translation. Vantage then starts the localisation workflow automatically in the background.
This includes:
segmenting the content
applying glossary and translation memory
generating Pro AI translations for all target languages
checking translation quality using the same AI LQA process used in Lokalise Expert's quality scoring
creating review tasks if human review is enabled and assigning these tasks to the chosen default reviewers for each target language
You do not need to run these steps manually.
What happens next
After the project is created, you are redirected to the project editor. Translations begin appearing automatically as the AI workflow runs.
From the editor, you and your contributors can:
review translations
edit or rephrase segments
approve content
track progress
use filters and search to find specific segments
If human review is enabled, reviewers will also be able to complete their assigned review tasks there.
Project settings
After the project is created, you can edit its settings. To edit project settings, click the cog icon in the top menu:
On the Settings page, you can view and adjust the following:
Project name
Base language — read-only, cannot be modified.
Target languages — add more target languages as needed; currently it's not possible to remove languages.
Translation memory — add or remove additional read-only TMs and change their priority. The Vantage Primary Translation Memory is always included and is used for both reading TM matches and saving approved translations. Changes apply to translations generated after the settings are updated.
Translation process — choose Instant AI or AI + human review.
Default review deadline and project timezone — set how many calendar days reviewers get to complete review tasks (1–90 days, 5 days by default) and which timezone is used to calculate due dates. Deadlines are set to end-of-day in the project timezone. Changes to these settings apply only to new review tasks; existing task deadlines are not updated.
Default reviewers — choose contributors that will be added as reviewers by default on a per-language basis. It's possible to add multiple reviewers for each target language.
Delete project — permanently removes the project, including all segments and translations. This action cannot be undone.
