Reverse DNS (rDNS) records, specifically PTR (Pointer) records, map an IP address to a hostname, acting as the reverse of standard A/AAAA record lookups. These records are essential for verifying server legitimacy, primarily reducing email spam and aiding network troubleshooting.

Add a PTR record in the LumaDock panel

Log in to your LumaDock account and open the rDNS section from the left sidebar.

Add a new PTR record

Click Add PTR Record.

Select the Service

In Related Item, choose the Service you want to configure PTR record for.

Pick the IP address

In IP Address, select the IP that should get the reverse DNS entry.

Set TTL and RDATA

Leave TTL as the default unless you have a specific reason to change it.

In RDATA, enter the hostname you want for reverse DNS, for example mail.example.com (no trailing dot).

Confirm

Click Confirm. The new PTR record will appear in the rDNS list where you can review or update it later.

PTR changes can take some time to propagate.
