Connect Lumonic to Claude with MCP
Lumonic MCP lets Claude securely access your Lumonic workspace so you can ask questions about portfolio data, reporting status, metrics, source values, schema, and Excel formulas directly in Claude.
Lumonic is available as an official Anthropic connector. If the official connector is not available in your Claude workspace yet, you can also connect Lumonic as a custom MCP connector using the MCP URL from Lumonic.
Your Lumonic permissions still apply. Claude can only access Lumonic data available to your authenticated Lumonic account.
Before you start
You need a Lumonic account with access to the relevant workspace, access to Claude with connectors enabled, and permission to use connectors in your Claude workspace.
If you use Claude Team or Enterprise, a Claude Owner or Primary Owner may need to enable the Lumonic connector before individual users can connect it.
Connect with the official Lumonic connector
Use this option if Lumonic appears in Claude's Connectors Directory.
For Claude workspace owners: Open Claude, go to Organization settings, open Connectors, choose Browse connectors, search for Lumonic, select the Lumonic connector, then choose Add to your team.
After Lumonic is added to the team, each user still needs to connect and authenticate with their own Lumonic account.
For Claude users: Open Claude, click the plus button in the lower-left corner of the chat box, open Connectors, choose Manage connectors, search for Lumonic, select Lumonic, then choose Connect.
Follow the authorization prompts, sign in with Lumonic, return to your chat, and enable Lumonic from the Connectors menu when you want Claude to use Lumonic data.
Connect as a custom connector
Use this option if Lumonic does not appear in Claude's Connectors Directory yet.
Open Lumonic, go to Settings, open the MCP tab, and copy your Lumonic MCP URL.
In Claude, open Connectors, choose Add custom connector, name it Lumonic, paste the Lumonic MCP URL, then choose Add and Connect.
Follow the authorization prompts, sign in with Lumonic, return to your chat, and enable Lumonic from the Connectors menu when you want Claude to use Lumonic data.
Recommended first prompt
Use Lumonic to inspect my workspace context. Identify the available entities, reporting periods, relevant financial fields, and source context before answering my next question.
This helps Claude understand your Lumonic workspace before building analysis.
What you can ask Claude to do
Reporting status: Use Lumonic to summarize reporting status for Q1 2026. Show which companies have submitted, which are missing data, and which companies need follow-up.
Portfolio table: Use Lumonic to build a table of revenue, EBITDA, cash balance, and net leverage for the portfolio as of March 31, 2026. Include source dates where available.
Missing data: Use Lumonic to find companies with missing Q1 2026 submissions. Group them by owner or coverage team if available.
Metric discovery: Use Lumonic to find the right fields for ARR, EBITDA, cash balance, and net leverage. Validate the LX expressions before using them.
Value lookup: Use Lumonic to resolve revenue and EBITDA for Acme Corp as of March 31, 2026. Include the effective date, as-of date, and traceback link if available.
Excel formulas: Use Lumonic to create refreshable Excel formulas for revenue, EBITDA, cash balance, and net leverage for this reporting workbook. Validate the formulas before returning them.
Tips for better results
Tell Claude the reporting period, metric names, entities, and output format you want.
If you are not sure which fields to use, ask Claude to discover the schema first.
For table-style analysis, ask Claude to build a table directly. For exact value checks, ask Claude to validate or resolve LX expressions. For workbook workflows, ask for refreshable Lumonic Excel formulas rather than static pasted values.
Ask Claude to include source dates or traceback links when you need auditability.
Troubleshooting
Lumonic does not appear in Claude: Use the custom connector option, or ask your Claude workspace owner to confirm whether the Lumonic connector has been added to your team.
You cannot connect: Confirm that you have an active Lumonic account and access to the relevant workspace. If you use Claude Team or Enterprise, confirm that connectors are enabled for your organization.
Authorization failed: Disconnect Lumonic from Claude and connect again. Make sure you sign in with the Lumonic account that has access to the relevant workspace.
Claude says it cannot access Lumonic: Confirm that Lumonic is enabled in the Connectors menu for the current conversation.
Results look incomplete: Ask Claude to confirm the workspace context, reporting period, entities, and fields it used. You can also ask Claude to include source dates and traceback links.
Claude used the wrong metric: Ask Claude to search the Lumonic schema for the correct field and validate the LX expression before answering.
Claude returned static values for an Excel workflow: Ask Claude to return refreshable Lumonic Excel formulas instead of static values.
