Using the Space Bar for Easier Drawing with the Pencil Tool

Did you know? Students using non-touchscreen devices can make drawing on the canvas smoother and more accessible by holding down the Space bar.

When using the Pencil tool, students can hold down Space to draw without needing to continuously press the trackpad or mouse button.

This feature is especially helpful for:

  • Students using a mouse or trackpad

  • Students with fine motor challenges

  • Devices where clicking and holding the trackpad can be tiring

Student Experience

While using the Pencil tool:

  1. Select the Pencil tool.

  2. Hold down the Space bar.

  3. Move your mouse or finger on the trackpad to draw freely on the canvas without holding down the mouse or trackpad button.

Note: The Alt key is still supported for students who are accustomed to using it. However, we recommend using the Space bar moving forward.

This shortcut works on both Windows and Mac devices.
