Competition Rules & Teacher Instructions

Learn what the Solutions Competition is and understand the rules for participating in the Solutions Competition

Written by Stephanie

The Solutions Competition is a fun, friendly math contest run by Magma twice a year (fall and spring). It’s designed to boost student engagement while encouraging meaningful use of Magma Math.

Competition Rules

To ensure a fair and fun competition, all participants must follow these rules:

  • The competition runs for two weeks.

    • Spring 2026 dates: May 4th and May 15th

  • Elementary, middle, and high school classes compete separately.

  • Only assignments or quizzes assigned during the competition window will count toward totals.

  • Practice Mode submissions do not count toward competition results.

  • The goal is for each class to submit the highest number of valid solutions.

  • Solutions must be developmentally appropriate.
Assignments do not need to match grade exactly, but clearly inappropriate submissions (e.g., high school students completing kindergarten-level work) may be disqualified.

  • Students must show their work using the canvas tools (pencil, keyboard, or manipulatives). Uploaded photos of handwritten work are also accepted.

Teacher Instructions

Teachers play a key role in the success of the competition:

  • Register your class using the official sign-up form.

  • Monitor student submissions to ensure participation throughout the competition window.

  • Ensure grade-appropriate work to avoid disqualification.

  • Encourage engagement by sending reminders, motivating students, and sharing leaderboard progress.
