The Solutions Competition is a fun, friendly math contest run by Magma twice a year, in the fall and spring. It’s designed to engage teachers and students while encouraging more use of Magma Math.

Competition Rules

To ensure a fair and fun competition, all participants must follow these rules:

  • The competition lasts for two weeks.

  • Elementary, middle, and high school classes compete separately.

  • Only assignments or quizzes assigned between November 3rd and November 14th will count toward the competition totals.

    • Practice Mode submissions do not count toward competition results.

  • The goal is for each class to submit the most solutions.

  • Solutions must be grade-appropriate. Assigned questions do not have to match the grade exactly, but submissions that are clearly inappropriate—for example, high school students working on kindergarten problems—will be disqualified.

  • Students must show their work on their canvases using the pencil, keyboard, or manipulatives, and we can also accept photos of work uploaded to the canvas.

Teacher Instructions

Teachers play a key role in the Solutions Competition! Here’s how to manage your class during this time:

  • Register your class: Use the registration form.

  • Monitor submissions: Make sure students are submitting solutions regularly.

  • Ensure appropriateness: Check that solutions are grade-appropriate to avoid disqualification.

  • Encourage participation: Send reminders, motivate students, and highlight leaderboard progress.
