What is an MIS?

An MIS is a platform that helps schools manage administrative and academic data in a single, centralised system. There are loads of different ones - Arbor, SIMS, Compass, Bromcom, ScholarPack Rest, and so on.

How does this affect Magma?

When the source of the data (the MIS) changes, it also changes the way we receive the data - your classes and assignments must refresh to match the new system.

What does this mean?

  • Your classes will update: old classes are replaced with new ones that match the new MIS data.

  • Assignments are archived: all existing assignments move into the 'archived' section. Don’t worry! You’ll still have access to everything pupils have completed.

Please note: when your school migrates to a new MIS, existing assignments become read-only. This means that any questions pupils haven’t answered before the migration can’t be completed afterwards, as their old classes no longer exist in the system.

If you want pupils to finish or redo this work, you can recreate the assignment. Follow Step 3 below to make a fresh copy and assign it to your new class.

What should I do?

1. Go to 'classes' and re-follow your classes.

2. To find old assignments: go to 'all classes' in the top left corner of your screen, then the 'archived' tab in assignments.

3. If you have old incomplete assignments that you want to set for your class: select 'copy' in the menu,

assign to new class, rename and click 'create'. This makes a brand-new assignment.

That's everything! If you need help, don't hesitate to use the live chat function in the app - it's the little orange circle at the bottom right of the screen.
