Pupil View in Practice Mode

Practice Mode is a space where pupils can build confidence and strengthen their maths skills at their own pace. It provides helpful examples, instant feedback, and a familiar work environment so pupils can practice whenever they need extra support.

Getting to Practice Mode

Pupils can access Practice Mode from their dashboard by clicking Practice.

They’ll see two main sections:

  • Recommended – skills their teacher has suggested

  • All Skills – the full list of practice skills available for their grade

How Pupils Practice

Each skill card focuses on one specific concept, such as Multiply two-digit numbers or Add fractions with unlike denominators. When a pupil opens a skill card, they’ll see:

An Example Video

A short instructional video shows a similar problem and explains a strategy step-by-step.

A Familiar Workspace

Pupils use the same canvas and manipulatives they already know from assignments and quizzes, so practising feels familiar and low-stress.

Unlimited Tries

Pupils can retry skills as many times as they’d like to improve their understanding or earn a higher score.

Understanding Star Ratings

When pupils finish a practice set, they receive a star rating based on accuracy:

  • 1 star: 50–69% correct

  • ⭐⭐ 2 stars: 70–89% correct

  • ⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars: 90–100% correct

Pupils can move on to the next skill once they earn at least 1 star. They can always return to a skill to try for more stars or strengthen their understanding.

Teacher Recommendations

If a teacher recommends a specific skill, pupils will see it at the top of their Practice tab. Pupils can:

  • Click the recommended card

  • Watch the example video

  • Complete the practice set

  • Earn stars to show their progress

Recommendations help pupils review skills they need more support with or prepare for upcoming assignments.
